Just had an accident :/

Lol, I know that- but most leave their excess as something reasonable so they can claim for things like this!

If you want to insure something half interesting at a young age you have to put up with a high excess, at 21 I have a £600 excess (On a £900 premium) on my ST. It sucks if I make a claim but it's worth it for staying legal in something fun :)

Not here. Loads of people rave about how low their insurance is and then if you dig deeper you find they have a huge excess....

I know, I did look but did not see a van flying at about 45mph, possibly from round a corner or across the junction (humans are bad at judging speed, I appreciate that), nor did the chav in the rover :p

And shhh we don't talk about the TS10 :D

Why didn't the river driver stop at the scene also? Did they not see the incident?

You do if you are claiming from your own insurer. You get it back when - and only when - your insurer recovers its costs from the third party insurer.

don't I know it - took over a year to get my excess back. Had a jacked up insurance cost in the mean time as well.:mad:

Sometimes stopping isnt safe especially at a junction.

I almost had a similar accident today (ran an umarked junction that i thought was a slip road..luckily the woman stopped quick!)

And i know what you are saying about excess..i had 400 for a while on my celica..it oh so tempting to put it up.

For all those moaning about my excess; I didn't chose it; it is the minimum allowed when you are 19/20 and insuring an MX5 with Admiral.

This happened to me, someone ran a red and blind sided me. She claimed I ran the red despite the fact I was waiting at the lights and moving off with the rest of the traffic.

Anyway, best thing to do is get the CCTV, which will prove what happened. I was unfortunate, normally the CCTV would have been watching the lights but due to a robbery the week before it was watching some shops. I lost 2 years NCB.

The witness is probably one of the drivers friends.

You may want to get the CCT footage as quickly as possible - whats the retention on it being saved? Days / Weeks / Months. I wouldn't want to risk it if you're 100% certain you didn't **** up and the footage would prove that.

Unlucky mate, hope the damage isn't too bad and thing get sorted quickly. :)

I have high excess too (£750 though I might drop down a bit come renewal) and at the end of the day it does bring the premium down.

Wouldn't normally suggest claiming for whippo compo but if it does cause you serious problems/missing work then I'd say go for it. Or at least when you have time get down the doctors just to make sure. :o

Umm, I was going to say, just because a light turns green doesnt give you carte blanche to pull out into the road with out checking.

Cyclists, mad pedestrians etc etc.

I would be amazed if the CCTV captures your RTC, it would have to be facing the lights and zoomed in to have any chance of seeing it, from your pic there doesnt seem much reason for the camera to be facing the way you want it to :(

Your best hope IMO is the driver behind you who would act as a witness that you waited until green to move off - do you have their registration?

I really, really, really wish people would be more vigilant following an accident.

Unfortunately so many people out there are lying scum. If you're even in an accident and have a smart phone, get it out and document EVERYTHING. Take photos of absolutely everything you can. I appreciate it's not the first thing that comes to mind when you're really shaken up but it really does avoid problems down the line and completely de-centivises the other party to lie if they know you have contradictory evidence.

I really wish I had done this in my accident several years ago. The driver of the other car was drunk and tried to assault me and had to be restrained by his passengers. If I'd filmed him I would have told them to admit full liability or I would have used the evidence in court/passed it onto the police. (Well, that said I should have phoned the police but I was shaken up and only 17) Instead it took 3 years of aggressive solicitor letters and court dates before it went 50:50.

The CCTV is pointed in that direction and the van is very easy to identify; it is heaivily signwritten. All we would need is the image of him running the red.

We can get the reg of the driver behind me from Cabot Circus CCTV exiting the carpark; it was a silver mercedes, a C class, I believe, but of course, I cannot get that under data protection, which is forcing me more and more to go the full insurance route.

If I talk to his insurer will they investigate the claim fully or is it better to go through my own, and instruct them of all the info? Still waiting on Europa to tell me whether they wish to take on the case.
