baby monitor with mobile phone option

Some people like to make sure the room temperature is adequate?

I don't have a child, but i have seen a lot of parents with thermometers in the cots.

I just thought it would be a useful thing to know?

Not really even newborns are capable of a reasonable homeostasis and once they are over a month they are pretty capable all around. All you need to know is it cold, temperate or hot.

We had one, with a pad that goes under the baby matress, sensor plate, and sound, there was a nightlight lo-glow thing on it too, made by angelcare.

It was outstanding, the sound quality was excellent, and the monitor could be set to beep in rhythm with breathing, if the child stops breathing, or moves off the sensor pad then an alarm rings.

Seeing how they are is all well and good, but it won't save you from a cot death, it isn't them making noise you've to worry about, its when they don't. Thus the motion sensor is excellent, we didn't go for a screen, as we expected to be asleep rather than watching a screen all night.

My point stands - why the hell would you want to see your kid from work? What's the point?

Because most fathers kind of like seeing their kids and if they are away from them at work may miss them

Then you assume wrong - I've got three kids - 5yr old boy, 4yr boy and 2yr girl.

And no, I've never used any baby monitor.

And are you the main carer?

Except there is no real link between apnea and SIDS (NICHD study). Moreover, in that case it may well alert you to something being wrong but by then it is too late, the medical services are too far away, and the parents do not have the necessary skills to maintain a babies airway. This would fall into Amigafan's overanxious category.

No - shared evenly.

Thank you.

The occurence of cot death among infants is no higher for those that don't use baby monitors than those that do, ergo - they are a waste of money and only serve as a placebo for over anxious and "trendy" parents.

I'd rather spend the £100 on some nice clothes, food, toys etc for them than waste it on meaningless gadgets.

That's a strange question, are you questioning his parenting because he doesn't have or want a baby monitor? I absolutely agree with him there is no need, get your mrs to send a pic via text. Don't be so soft. And seeing a baby on a monitor is nothing compared to going in and actually checking on their health/comfort.

I agree with the tip toeing too, that's daft, we play music, Hoover and get up to all sorts, but its never disturbed their sleep.

Anyhow just my 2 pence.

Possibly, did alert me to a choking incident that I was able to clear.
I have various basic skills in that area, so it proven useful.
Might be overanxiety, but as a comfort blanket it worked well as a gift bought for us.

No, I didn't question his ability as a parent I questioned whether he was the main carer. Surely you would be able to see that the amount of time he spent with his kids may change his perception on the value of a monitor.

You want to be able to see the baby from work, while it is sleeping?

I can agree with a level of sensor monitoring breathing and movement, but ones with screens etc are a waste of money.

Also agree with the tiptoeing around the house. Just get on with life, it will be better for you in the long run :P

I live with my kids, I have never felt the need for a camera on a monitor with or without a thermometer. I've lived away from my kids and never felt the need for one either.

So, as others, I am wondering just what your point is :p

Wut? You'd pass up the opportunity to buy a gadget pretty much for the sake of it? n00b TBH. :p

I'm sooo getting me one of these when I have kids.

When you are a parent and you want gadgets you want ones that you can actually get some use out of :P

lol

Put baby to bed.

Go do a nightshift.

Keep an eye on baby via monitor.

If the baby stirs jump in the car and rocket home asap.

Who says single parents can't hold down a job.

If the OP reads this thread in the next 45 minutes, there is exactly the thing he wants coming up on the Black Friday Amazon deals.

Withings Smart Baby Monitor

Will probably have 25% off.

Just seen that cheers what a debate going on lol

OP is suffering from what I refer to as New Parent Syndrome or NPS.

Amigafan has (mostly) hit the nail on the head. Especially the bits about companies exploiting anxious new parents (suffering NPS :D ) and not tip-toeing around. Also two words: "Controlled crying"

What I don't understand is watching the child sleeping remotely whilst at work? Really? Don't you actually have some work to do.

My son had a cheapo baby monitor (that's all you could have way back then) and his son has one. It provides a little bit of comfort...even if it is only psychological. ;)
