So, went into morning lectures, sat down and noticed someone had left a flash drive. Now, is it okay that I've entered the drive as it's not protected by a password, went onto his CV for his contact information?

I also handed it into reception as I'm not an idiot and notified them that there's contact information on it, but not sure if they're allowed to actually look.

Would you prefer someone look into your files to try find you or would you prefer not?

If it was in a uni lecture hall, I'd prefer you just handed it in tbh as I'd obviously check there. If it was on a bus or something then I'd be very happy if you got my contact details and gave it back to me.

My Uni flash drive has a readme on it saying who it belongs to and asks the finder to hand it in to the CS office.

I just name flash drives my full name and then people can see who it belongs to when they plug it in.

If it then got handed in I could ask for it.

I find a usb stick once with erotic pictures of a woman holding a sword
but there was no CV or contact details to be found.....

It's scary how much common sense is lacking these days.

Common sense to pick up your belongings in the first place? Someone left an iPad in our class and someone stole it, found out the next day he's sitting asking people how to unlock an iPad..

Common sense to ask whether you should hand it in, or just look to find information on the drive.

It's the same with the posts on here about whether someone should eat a pack of bacon that's 3 hours out of date!

My mate bought a refurbed Asus laptop. When he booted up he thought it looked odd and he slowly realised it wasn't at factory settings but instead looked used.

Basically it had some young girls data on it. Clearly when it had been returned it hadn't been wiped. All the logon credentials to her online life etc we all defaulting in etc etc, and all her personal data and photos were on there.

He returned it straight back!
