Pretty much decided on this TV or the 50" version

Is there anything I should know?

Do I need to spend this much?

I don't even want 3D but I can't find a non 3D version

Apologies if this has been done to death...But I'm nearly ready for it in cinema room number two.

I would check over the the AVForums for any widespread issues, but generally you can't go wrong with a Panasonic plasma. I have last years GT30 and that won over the competing Samsung (at the time the only other brand i'd go for) on image quality and in particular blacks.

Not sure what the current lineups are like, but i'd just set a budget and then compare it with the equivalent Samsung and see what is better this year and then take home whicever is better.

pannys are great, nice purchase - generally the panels in the 3d models are better than the 2d ones anyway, so always good to just get the 3d version (even if 3d is a con)

I got the st50 50" for pc gaming and think it's amazing and the best thing I have ever seen.

St50 is great value for money if you read the reviews on it there has never been a tv of that spec for that price. It does the full 1080p motion in all modes and it has an input lag of just 16ms when in game mode and also has some of the deepest blacks ever seen.

There really isn't many issues with years panasonics is there anything in particular you were worried about?

Thanks for the replies....Just buzzing heat etc....It will be my first plasma you see...Are these early issues now a thing of the past?

no they're great, it might need recalibrating after burn in, but you wont get screen burn at all, just watch out for it's bright glossy screen, i dont know why it has this because ours looks awfall

Well they do get hot especially in the first 100 hours of use. An led tv will give off next to no heat.

They do buzz on an all white screen but you only here it if there is no other sounds in the room.

Image retention doesn't seem to be an issue on this years panasonics as long as your reasonably careful. No black bars for first 100 hours and try to avoid to many static images for hours on end. I use mine as a pc monitor and for gaming and image retention doesn't effect me at all.
This years samsung are less likely to get image retention if this is a problem for you they might be a better choice.

Plasmas will always have a few draw backs like the ones you mentioned but I think the benefits are well worth it.

I think you should be pretty sorted with this set, it's the same one as I will be getting, as soon as the house is ready! Just finished plastering, so decoration and flooring mainly to do now so a couple of months. Hopefully there will be some on sale in the New Year.

Had a look at these in store and they look awesome, just make sure you don't have any bright light aimed at it as it seemed pretty reflective still.

I have just got the 50" on saturday, upgraded from a Sammy 40" LCD 6 years old.

And WOW the picture is amazing, I cant hear any buzzing. But the sound will take some getting used to as it is different from my Sammy.

The kids love utube on the TV. lol

Its going to be so hard to wait for after xmas to buy this TV....Do you think it will drop in price in reality tho?

People saying they always drop before next years models come out I read somewhere that it might even be this month.

It is worth noting that if you buy before christmas you get 2 pairs of 3d glasses free from panasonic :)

And if you buy from a panasonic shop. It comes with 6 years warranty (if you buy it in the time fame, cant remember what that is)

Little tip to anyone gaming on this set in 3d use true cineam 100hz.

I was playing on 120hz and was getting double image so was having to turn down the in game 3d.
I just now switched to 100hz with max frame creation and I can now play sleeping dogs with 3d maxed out and it stunning. Bit of input lag but not that it matters on game like this. :)

I got this one back in August,no problems so far,the 2 pairs free glasses are ones with disposable batteries though :(
That said I only have used the 1 pair and it is still at over 75% power

TV size is physically the same size as my old lg 50",this panny has a much smaller surround and was a good few kilos lighter too

You can get a pack of 12 batteries from Amazon for under £3, so the fact they aren't rechargeable isn't that bad.

I also wasn't too impressed with the glasses that came free :) but free is free

Love the tv and I'm thinking about getting a better set of 3d glasses can anyone recommend some with a little less reflection and that are rechargeable?
