Alfa 159 - any opinions?

the lusso is the "luxury" spec, so it's a bit stilted, do they do a veloce? that'll be a little less comfortable but it'll be more fun in the corners

i used to own a 156 1.9 diesel 150hp went really well ,had it for 3 years and it never missed a beat. The 159's are loads better than the 156 Alfa/Fiat poached one of the top BMW designers to work on the new model! i can tell you now, and i work in the motor industry the 159 is a brilliant car if you can't get a ti have a look at the Lusso speck.Loads of car for the cash they really are cars of beauty.

really? i'm not arguing as i genuinely don't know, but that isn't the prevailing opinion on the forums. The guys on there seem to all be of the opinion that, while the 159 is an excellent car, being larger leads it to being a less exciting handler. It looks AMAZING don't get me wrong, and there may or may not be less niggles, but "loads better" isn't my experience and i go on the alfa forums daily

ps. i do own a 2005 156 1.9JTD Lusso and, that said, i would still own the 159 because it just looks the nuts. Then again my tidy 61k example cost me £3.5k so it's swings and roundabouts because you just can't get a 159 of that quality for that money

you can go on any car forum for any make and model, and i guarantee someone will be moaning.

First one is nice, however I think I'll stay away from the 2.4 engine - seems to be pretty thirsty and suffer from more DPF issues!

the general consensus is that the 1.9 is the better option. It's obviously less thirsty, less heavy, easier to work on (cam belt can be done without even using cam locks iirc, more space in the bay, pushes less soot), it re-maps better (relatively) too.

the dpf is something to watch with a mileage like that. It sounds like you've got your heart set though, so best of luck.

Do you mean in terms of shorter journeys being bad for the DPF? I actually do mostly A road/motorway trips of around 25 miles, so shorter town journeys isn't really a problem.

Absolutely beautiful cars, if I ever have need of a larger family sized car this would be top of my list.

I know this is out of your pay grade but just an example of how good they look in the right colour with some nice wheels

I would even have to get the dogs some nice Italian shoes!

I'm on my second Alfa. I had a 2006 GT 1.9JTDm for 5 years and now have a 2008 159 JTDm Lusso that I've had since Jan.

The GT never missed a beat and was very relieable. The 159 had steering rack issues 2 months after I bought it but the selling garage replaced the rack and all has been fine since.

I've been looking at alfas a lot while I save for a new car, is the common consensus its best to get an alfa from a dealer so it comes with a warranty? I've never bought a car from a dealer its always been private.

Im looking at Brera's and 159's under £7000.

The 159 is indeed the the 1.9, stuck with the same engine as I knew what I was getting myself in for!

The car is used 4 days a week and does 100 miles a day as per my locations.

I average 42 - 43 over the course of the tank whereas the GT would do an extra couple of mpg's.
