*** Official Planetside 2 Thread ***

First impressions so far are terrible.

The game is completely unplayable due to lag. Not just players and vehicles warping all over the place but menus taking 10+ seconds to open.

Another fun bug is every time I die I have to restart the game. Respawns will either set my view off by 45* so it looks like I'm leaning all the time or load the game with no textures so I'm just a gun walking through limbo.
 
I am getting half the FPS with PS2 than with BF3 ! Thats with my 6870. I really hope they sort things out ASAP and optimise it better. Are there any PS2 graphics card comparisions yet? I did a quick google but came up with nothing.

I am still working out how the generator stuff works. I still see lots of people looking at forcefields (that used to be me!).

I had an awesome run yesterday with a Vanu Max. I totally ran out of all ammo and must have killed 10+ people. They only got me when I did a suicide run to melee them. Awesome fun :)
 
This game is not a looker, I understand theres a humongous amount of stuff happening on screen but its dissapointingly low fidelity and a bit of a comedown after the likes of bf3.

You can get it much better using ultra settings and sweetfx, but if youre having issues with vanilla, possibly better not to.

Graphics have been toned down since BETA (sadly), but ULTRA settings are currently not in the game.

This game is nothing like BF3. Last night I was fighting for a base, with about 30-40 people from my own team on the ground, another 10-20 in vehicles on the ground and countless more in the air. The enemy probably had a similar amount.

That's updwards of 100 people all fighting in or around 1 base. BF3 has nothing similar to this.
 
I've kept an eye on this game for a little while....just a quick question on the business model (it doesnt say much on the site) do you get to download and play this completely for free and they make their money through in game cosmetic puchases?

Also how big is the client?

Its not just cosmetic stuff. The $10 weapon upgrades (1000 SC) are really good, and pretty desirable. They are not essential, but make things much easer. Unfortunately the weapon can only be used with one class I believe ?

The standard weapons are OK but for sniping and anti tank attacking the upgrades are much better.

Ok thanks.....may have to give this a whirl tonight then.

Hopefully my slow old ADSL line can get the 7GB through in time before bed.
 
I gave up, I am not playing a lag fest until its fixed or until I play at night time instead.

Pointless, going to love the weekend.

People warping RIGHT NEXT TO YOU, so you cant deal with them, but they can some how deal with you? ********.

The rendering of land and such suddenly disappearing and reappearing? NOPE.

Sigh...at least got my 4x scope for my apparently accurate LMG (described as such in description) which doesnt really help really, should have gone with the 2x sight.

Honestly what's the point in even having ANYTHING beyond 2x/NVR for LMGs?
