As this card is on offer this week, thinking of taking the plunge with it.

Is it worth the extra £80 over the MSI HD 7970 OC which is on at £299?

Thanks

I was wondering this myself when I ordered mine, but I know what noise is like on reference cards (awful), and these are at least guaranteed to run at 1150, plus the better cooler.

Better cooler, less noise and better speeds all add up to a big yes for me personally, but if these things don't matter to you, then maybe not so much.

Tbh unless you are an avid overclocker then you may be better off with the msi oc. The cooler is brilliant on the lightning though...

It looks that way though I hope the stock readings from gpuz are wrong, as it shows a vddc of over 1.25v.

If it's 1.25v for 1240mhz, then that's not a great deal better then a regular lightning.

It could be but if that's the case then these new xt chips are 100% BS. You could get any lightning to 1150mhz for 1.25v...I was hopeful these were hitting those speeds at 1.174v.

Though gpuz didn't read the first edition lightning correctly so it's possible its not reading the new one either. Afterburner will give the closest accurate vddc readings.

Stock voltage on these XT chips is 1.256v isn't it?
Even my Matrix Platinum is 1.256v

I just found that out the other night :p

Haven't done much reading into the new xt chips until this week....still think it's quite excessive for a stock voltage.

What sort of o/c should I be aiming for with this card.
Not done anything with it yet, been running at stock.

Runs a bit warm but on 50% fan plays Bf3 on a steady 52 degrees

Max out powertune (+20%), max out aux (+30mv).

Core voltage - Probably not too far away from the limit at stock, provided you can keep it cool you should be safe enough to ~1.28v

Memory voltage - You shouldn't have much reason to adjust this away from its base of 1.6v, should be safe for 1.625 - 1.65v.

Core and memory clock sliders - each to their own really, what you can push these too depends on voltage required and temps. Don't go nuts with the memory slider, you can actually make performance worse if its too high as you start to hit correction somewhere between 1800 - 2000mhz.
