£25 MOT at Kwik Fit

Aren't Kwik Fit the place with 1 MOT license for the entire
Nation? Leading them to be one of the most honest places to go for one?

I've managed to get mine for 25 two years on the trot at kwikfit . I wouldn't use them for anything else though. I too have experienced the ineptitude !

Last one got an advisory for a broken exhaust bracket, which I new about anyway.
Thing is you can check everything yourself apart from emissions so you now if it will pass or not.

Just booked my MOT for Friday using this code. :D

Code I had last year has sadly expired. Glad I found this one!

I pay £54 at my local garage, they do look after my car though so I don't mind.

Good to see the code still working just booked up.... I have not used for mot before but will give them a try.

Also took advantage of their £25 deal for Aircon recharge (when booked with mot) as I missed out on the £25 offer last time round :)

£54?!

I never pay more than half that, seems odd that you'd be so happy to pay so much for an MOT. It's an MOT - they look at your car and give you a certificate. Why pay more?

I take it to my local place, very reliable mechanic and business, £52 but he doesnt try to arse rape you you some of these other places do! finding faults which are not actually needed so you have the work done and get it re-tested.

My Golf went through last with with 2 advisories on the rear tires nearing limit but, everything else fine, he would tell me if so.

Last week I paid £52 for the MOT which passed, pressure test for the coolant system and he even chucked in free labour for changing the oil and oil filter which I supplied, which he stamped my service book with.

:)

Because I have, and I have heard of other people's experiences of some of these half price MOT's being riddled with dodgy mechanics or chain who just want to rape customers of their money?

Convenience (garage is at the end of the road) mainly I guess. Plus they do cheaper servicing and use genuine parts so this offsets it anyway.

Plus having taken it for MOT to both nearest BMW dealers for £40 MOTs (they still send me the offer letters for cheap MOT each year) in the past and getting it back with shoe scuffs on my trim, smudges on glass among other things I just prefer dropping it off on the walk to work then picking it up on the walk home.

It's also been to the local Kwikfit for MOT once and the same experience.

Okay, some people don't really care or even notice these things. I do.

I have taken every car I own except when covered by BMW warranty for the cheapest MOT I can find and not once have I ever had a car fail an MOT.

I had my MOT done last year at Kwik Fit for £25 and it passed. My sister has also had her last 2 MOT's done by them using discount codes and they both passed.

I've never used Kwik Fit for anything else though.

Last Kwik Fit my parents went to for an MOT rather conveniently said that their brakes and exhaust failed... the garage down the road didn't.... hmmm... convenient :p

Then report them, I think they have one license for the whole chain so they'd be up the proverbial creek if it was found that one of the garages had been a bit dodgy when it came to the MOTs

Just an update after the MOT at Kwik Fit this morning.

What a bunch of con men!

Said the emissions test would fail unless I bought a can of this BG44K fuel additive off them.

Then they refused to give me the emissions print out and made up some story about the machine only giving one copy which they have to keep.

In the end they offered to put my car back on the emissions machine and give me a new print out. So they did this but the print out is completely different than a usually one plus it has LPG on when my car is petrol.

Huge complaint on it's way to Kwik Fit head office and I will be notifying VOSA of their dodgyness.

Have got mine done at Halfords before as they offered 30% off for RAC membership. No untoward failure.

Where is everyone getting MOT's for sub £30!? I have never seen them advertised that cheap.

If you want to use Kwik Fit, halfords etc. Just make sure the products they sell (ie in Kwik Fit case, tyres, brakes and exhaust) and totally legal and top notch.

If not you will naturally get pulled up on them. The MOT inspector can fail any item he thinks can fail or wear within a year of the test certificate being issued.

Fast fit centres tend to play on these items to get work.

However some items will only be advisories.

Last year before my mot was due i did loads of work on my Mondeo . New bottom arms /trackrod ends/discs/pads /front drop links/ and rear subframe bushes . I spent 2 solid 12 hr days lying on my back in -10 temps doing the dam thing so just wanted the quickest/easiest and cheapest mot . and that was quick fit at the time (fast fit)

Now given i do most of the work on my car myself and do the family's stuff and my step son works in a parts department i have a good idea about most bits and bobs so was rather dismayed when it failed .

2 items it failed on . front drop link was loose (i had not done it up properly) and read droplink was abit worn ( i never swapped these and they were ok in my eyes ) and an advisory on the rear subframe bushes i had replaced (no idea why )

They refused to give me a spanner to tighten the drop link or tighten for me . so i then had 2 hrs to fix the issues and get back for my free re mot test .
The did offer to do the rear droplink for me for £139 (very kind of them )

£11 later and new rear droplink replaced and front tightened it passed the mot . Now fair enough they were both faults (neither unsafe ) but my issue was while waiting for my mot and as i watched the various people come in and out and the quotes people were getting .

Some woman brought in her micra which failed on the passenger track rod end . the quote ? £179 and to be safe we recommend doing the pair !! Over £300 for £16 worth of parts and maybe 30 mins worth of work .
The other eyeball popping one was a focus 2006 and a bill of over £1000 for front/rear disks and pads . Now given i had just done mine and a cost of under £100 for all parts its daylight robbery (and im in the wrong job :P )
