Just lost my job :(

Heard about it today know someone on the fourm worked for them, kind of hoped you had missed the bullet :(

Pity I loved Goldeneye and Dead space extraction, 2 excellent games.

Yeah, those 2 games seemed like they were going to help us get into the bigtime game development. 007 Legends killed our rep big time. We only had 9 months to make it and Activision messed us around like you wouldn't believe.

I knew the name sounded familiar. I went for an interview there for my placement year year's ago; good job I didn't get it :/.

I remember you had massive cutouts of various characters or something there and it was quite impressive but that's about it :p.

We were struggling with pitches for iPad games, rather than full on console games. Seems the console market has died a death since smart phones and tablets have arrived.

I knew I should have got out months ago when things began to look a little shaky earlier in the year. That's the last time I have any kind of company loyalty. The 1st hint of any trouble, BOOM! I'm gone!

Dolphin, I'm from Derby too (well used to be). Applied to be a games tester at Eurocom many years ago. I was beaten to the job by a guy from my home town lol. Did you happen to know a chap called Adam Penrose?

Sucks to hear about the job mate, good luck finding a new one.

yeah, name rings a bell. Didn't really see the testers, they were hidden away in a portacabin. I was hidden away upstairs in the Mo-cap studio. It was nice to see some day light this afternoon :)

I've never known so many die from one company. 6 died there in the 6 years I worked there? anyone know the average death rate per 250 people?

Sorry to hear about your lay-off mate. I will say that I firmly believe things happen for a reason though and use the time you have been given wisely to retrain, refresh training or do something different. Don't squander it, enjoy it but do something with it.

My redundancy in June 2011 was the best thing to happen to me. Gave me the kick up the bum I needed to put some changes into effect in my life.

Sorry to hear about that - gutted for everyone that lost their jobs.

I worked in the QA team (hidden away in the portacabin!) on Ice Age 3 and Dead Space: Extraction. It was a decent team and good working environment.. Sad day to see a local studio suffer such a big loss.

Cheers all :). I was in a similar situation 10 years ago. Not too bad as I didn't have a wedding half paid for and a 2 year old daughter....complicated!?

:( hope you have a turn for the better and thinks look upwards very soon. Remember, the rubbish times helps us appreciate the good times more!

Goldeneye was one of the best bond games since the N64 version and Dead space managed to capture the feel of the original despite it being on rails, clearly a bit of talent at the studio.

I can’t believe acti expected a good game to be made in 9 months. :(

Also bonuses weren’t link to metric by any chance?

Echoing the others, sorry to hear this happened OP. If this is of any comfort, then I can tell you from previous job-hunts, that the job market does tend to pick up in January as it's the New Year. Also in April as that's the new financial year.

I was made redundant 3 years ago in October, and they did it at the end of the month as well with zero notice. Had to go through the Insolvency Company as my firm went bankrupt and couldn't play our redundancy. Like you OP, the process took 5-6 weeks.

Bad luck OP, nothing worse than getting it at this time of year, I got it once, 2 weeks before Xmas, kinda choked me up at the time, but things soon get moving again, chin up and all that soppy stuff:)

cheers dude, 2 weeks before Xmas is pretty harsh.

Rare/Microsoft have set up a big meeting for all ex staff in a hotel in Derby on Monday. Will pop along and see what they're up to...

I worked for Hewlett Packard for 10 years and im now working as a credit management consultant for a mortgage company. Things have a funny way of working themselves out. Don't worry fella... There is work out there if you want it bad enough.
