Would like to here people's thoughts on my observation in the thread title... I think it is true... Lets say you are in a mixed group of people, like the groups you get at university, for example (although it could be any group); if someone who speaks with a very posh accent (probably called Jules from a wealthy family etc.) says something which is borderline racist, people tend not to bat an eyelid and maybe even laugh at the comment. If we contrast that with a remark made by, lets say, someone with a strong northern accent, if there is even a hint of racism in what they say then people will jump all over it and accuse them of being a nazi etc.
I'm sure lots of people know what I am talking about. Thoughts?
