Posh people are better able to 'get away' with being racist

Would like to here people's thoughts on my observation in the thread title... I think it is true... Lets say you are in a mixed group of people, like the groups you get at university, for example (although it could be any group); if someone who speaks with a very posh accent (probably called Jules from a wealthy family etc.) says something which is borderline racist, people tend not to bat an eyelid and maybe even laugh at the comment. If we contrast that with a remark made by, lets say, someone with a strong northern accent, if there is even a hint of racism in what they say then people will jump all over it and accuse them of being a nazi etc.

I'm sure lots of people know what I am talking about. Thoughts?

hear, not here.

anyway. i meet people from all classes and all walks of life on a daily basis and ime. racism, even on a low level, is high in this country from all the people i meet. it simply cannot be purely the people i meet.

the difference is some people will openly say it, others will not. what concerns me is the looseness of the racist words i encounter, often from people i have known for a short period of time (work contacts etc)

i don't take massive offence or notice of it if i'm honest. it's their issue, not mine.

No I don't know what your on about.
However it is easy to spot people who live in remote locations and don't have contact with a diverse group of people, some of the stuff they say is qaulity.

Oh do shut up you Northern oik.

[posh accent]

The plebs should be reprimanded for all contraventions of socially acceptable behaviour in order to keep them in their place.

I think the problem isn't with social groups but the fact that they change the goalposts on what is regarded as 'PC'. A while back, you said coloured people, then it became black people and that's no longer PC either. Then there's the 'chalk board' debate e.g. you can't say black bin liners so some have become grey in colour.

The maddening and tightening grip of Social Marxism.

There isn't really a chalk board debate, primarily because blackboards haven't really been around for years...

Not to mention that chalkboard is just US English for blackboard and not some sinister plot to put down whitey!

Substitute "posh" for "rich", and "being racist" for "bending the law", then yes.

If you're rich you can bend the law almost to snapping point, and expect to get away with it most of the time.

Posh ("upper class") people usually live in a part of the country where they don't experience the presence of ethnic minorities unless they are employing housemaids or gardeners. :p

When im horribly racist its considered delightfully droll. E.g "A man of colour came to my door the other day, I told him the staff entrance is around the back. Fnarf!"

When a common pleb is horribly racist its considered hateful. E.g "Oi you dirty ******** go ******* home you **** and stop stealing the job I could possibly have if I was in any way educated or motivated enough to get one! Its ***** like you ruining this country innit!"
