Virgin Media Discussion Thread

O
Guess what.. got a phone call this morning asking why I leaving, so told them... Am now paying £17.50 for 30meg and a new 12 month contract.. Offered me a phone line for extra £3 a month so took that aswell....

Seems like a good deal. Mine is going up by more than £2, I'm going to threaten to leave as well, which is no empty threat as I can go to Sky fibre. I also don't need 60Mb, going down to 30 could be cheaper.

God knows how your maxing your connection all day long running SSL over newsgroups on VM, as when I was with them it still didnt make a blind bit of difference on trying to avoid my speed being capped or not.

I also noticed that downloading through a SSL connection the speed was all over the shot, not very steady at all.

O and by the way don't take this as personal but I think your a mug if your going to stay with VM just for that extra upload. There awful as you have already started to notice, and it's not going to get any better. If they can't even allow youtube videos to be played at 1080p without buffering you know there network is garbage.
I'm not going to stay with VM because of the extra upload, but it is one of the things aggravating me. I do upload from time-to-time the odd few GB, and waiting on a 5 MB connection for that is a joke. At least now it's 10 MB. I'm on the way to liking VM more. If they can sort the YouTube issue in short order, I will likely stay until FTTP.

They changed their terms over the summer, its now any changes to contract price can invalidate it, and it will now invalidate the entire bundle not just a particular component so you can get out of everything. I should know, I did it yesterday :D

It's bizarre, I buffered a 34 minute 720p video in about 1-2 minutes about 5pm. An hour later my firefox crashed so I had to reload the video but this time it grands to a halt and will take about 10 minutes to complete. Its as if theres a cut off point based on peak times. Just wish they would fix the issue

Great time to have a price increase on the bill as well...

well my internet was off last night late about 10 pm rings the helpline one guy says no issues in your area so he said ill put you through to technician

at first the technician says there is a issue in your area  then he says ill ring you back in 5 mins when i checked  then he rung back and said i need to send a engineer out to you as you have a issue

i had a go at him saying useless and should make mind up is it my end or area issue and i wake up this morning and all is fine

proper clown shoes organisation .

Most of notts was off matey, went off about 20:30 and came back around 23:00. It was listed on the service status page as a know issue for the whole duration though with a "fixed by" time of 10:30 today. Was odd last night because not long after VM died we had a power cut as well.

What I've noticed is that the orientation of the Superhub makes all the difference. - I couldn't understand how my wife could get 17/30mbs, whilst I would get ~7/30mbs.
I turned the hub about 90 degrees, and suddenly I get the same speed.

So far I'm happy; it hasn't dropped the connection in the wind and rain like ADSL used to.

My Bill is going to be an extra £4.98 a month (I have TV, BB and Phoneline) I got a letter come through today.

Can't say i'm too happy about it.. don't want to move to Sky for TV. I guess Phoneline and BB I can move to BT inifinity but the difference in price is not that big of a difference I don't think.

Guess i'll have to try phoning them up and seeing what my options are.

Yeah it was on Watch Dog a few weeks ago. VM are going up in prices, and I think BT and Sky are aswell.

yep sky going up in january as well.

Might have to think about talk talk and just be limited with downloads.

The money they expect people to pay now sky and internet are virtually essentials:D are mad.

Just as I read the thread reply notification an email from VM came in...

We wanted to let you know that, from 1st February 2013*, the price of your Virgin Media service will increase by £2.00 a month. It's never nice when prices go up but it means we can continue to give you the best service.

Although your bill is going up, the good news is you already save over £80 a year, because you've opted for eBilling and Direct Debit.

So my bill goes up £2 from £37.50 (100Mb) - I don't mind this I guess, it's not an extra fiver a month like some are getting.

BT Infinity is a much better BB service than Virgin.

They claim they are putting prices up to maintain good service. What good service?

Well I have had Virgin 2 weeks now, the youttube thing is slightly annoying, havnt had any problem with iPlayer. The youtube thing as stated above seems to come down like a rock at 7PM for me

Is anyone else in Reading having mahoosive internet problems? for the past few days we've been getting almost non existent speeds, pings well over a second and horrific packet loss. Youtube has ranged from impossible to just about keeping up with 360p videos and web browsing has been super sluggish

any suggestions other than sticking our fingers up at virgin and shifting somewhere else?

Depends on the time of day I think.
I do all my Usenet stuff between 9am-5pm and pretty much always get 12.5MB down. If I try to grab anything after 5pm though, I'm lucky to get 350KB-400KB.

It's not like I'm that gentle on my line either...
Today: 6.8 G
