Hey guys,

Really need some help or advice please.
Ok so i bought a dell inspiron laptop for the wife a kids in 2010, never had any issues with up untill last week.

Started to notice the laptop was really slow to boot and would sometimes lockup on the desktop screen.
I thought it might be a virus or malware, so i ran a MSE virus scan got 0 threats found, i ran Malware bytes in safe mode with 0 threats found.
I then downloaded a eset Nod32 one time virus scan and again 0 threats found. I really don't know what the issue is.

So got up today and the thing wont boot at all, i managed to get it to load into safe mode and make sure i had a backup of all the photos/files.

So after some looking online the best advice i got was to do a factory reinstall, all seemed to go ok, i got a message on screen saying everything had been factory reset and that the laptop would reboot to finish the restore.

On reboot i now have this message.

"BOOTMGR is missing"
Press CRT-ALT-DEL to restart.

So everytime reboot i get this message, i can get into the laptop Bios by pressing f2 or boot options by pressing f12 but it will not go past the "Bootmgr" is missing part.

Here is the the thing guys, i have lost the windows 7 CD that came with the laptop in a house move about a year ago, i have tried looking for it but i have no clue where it is.

What i have found online is that i need to load windows from the disk? is that right?,. Is there anything i can do? is it possible to download the CD from Microsoft?

If anyone can help that would be great.

Thanks guys

Edit: for Laptop spec

Core i3 processor
4GB Ram
Ati on board graphics
Windows 7 64 bit

Ok guys,

Just an update, i have managed to download a windows 7 rtm onto my usb stick from another PC, i went into the laptop bios and have set it to boot from usb.

The error i'm getting now is

"Operating System not found"

I can see that the bios has detected the Harddrive but i'm lost now.

Can anyone help?

Sounds like a faulty HD. What make is the HD in the machine? Might well be able to find that off the serial number of the drive in your bios. When you have that go to the manufactures website and get the HD diag software, most will offer a bootable ISO for download. Burn it to disc, boot from the disc and run the software.

Failing that you are looking for a ISO of Windows 7 64bit OEM. I would imagine this should be easy enough to find. Burn that to dvd and boot from that to attempt to install your windows. I have to be honest though this sounds like another case of HD failure.

If you want to persist and try and install Windows 7 from a usb stick then the usb stick and the ISO often require a bit more prep than just downloading it to the stick. Not sure if I can link here but http://www.intowindows.com/how-to-install-windows-7vista-from-usb-drive-detailed-100-working-guide/ has a guide on how to do this.

Thanks for the reply,

On the bios the HD drive comes up with a serial number starting with WD so i'll check there website.

With regard to using a usb it's all i have on hand at the moment but 'ill buy some discs from a shop tomorrow.

I will give it a go and see what i can get sorted, thanks again for the reply.

Edit: I'll search online for a Windows 7 64 bit home premium OEM
