I have a choice of either the BMW 320d Sport or Merc C220d Exec SE.

Not tested the Merc yet but anything to look out for when I do?

The BMW is nice but I'm not completely sold on the interior.

I like both, might be tempted by the F30 seeing as it's a newer (designed at least) car but I have a bit of a soft spot for the new C class, particularly when you aren't picking up the maintenance cost

BMW is quicker and more economical ... you would need to get a C250CDI to get the same performance of the 320D. But personally I prefer the C-class. I find it more comfy than the BMW and a slightly better long distance cruiser.

Its a tricky one, and i'd go for the BMW, they dont look that ugly now and and its the better car to drive, down side is the slightly naff looking interior with the pop out screen.

The Merc in sport guise is still a nice looking car, but has been around for a bit so its an oldish design as such and the manual gearbox is a bit vague compared to its competition.

May as well pop this question in here.

I've been offered a new job (subject to Disclosure check) and I'll be offered a company car. Am I correct in thinking that you pay tax of 15-35% of the list price of the car at 20% (I'll be a basic tax payer)? Just trying to figure out how much it'll cost. At the interview, they said that it works out around £70 a month. I've never had a company car, nor do I know anyone who has so you're my help!

Obviously, it'll be explained in the literature that I'll no doubt get at some point but just trying to do some research myself.

The Merc is getting on a bit now - originally came out in 2007 and will be replaced with an all-new model within the duration of your lease. The 3 Series is brand new - came out only a year ago and is a more modern car as a result.

Instead of starting a new thread thought i'd jump in this one hope you dont mind :p

So I've finally had the say from our Director to have a company car and been told to look in the price range of what the other Sales guys have...

Volvo V50 Diesel Estate
Skoda Superb Diesel Estate
VW Passat Diesel Estate
etc
etc

So pretty boring cars but does give me a budget of around 25K give or take, So....

Merc C 200 CDI BlueEFFICIENCY £27,230.00
Merc A 200 CDI BlueEFFICIENCY AMG £24,520.00 (Is it a bit gay?)

BMW 118d Coupé Sport Plus Edition £25,770 (Again bit gay?)
BMW 316d ES £24,880 (Under powered)
BMW X1 sDrive18d Sport £25,660

Audi A4 2.0 TDI e £26,705

Mazda 6 Sport 2.2I Diesel £24,995 (Good price and spec)
Volvo S60 D4 R-Design Nav (£24,429.17 (Basic???)) (£29,315(Rec Retail))

So what are your thoughts or any other cars to consider?

Cheers
Zaf

The Mazda looks pretty good, lots of spec included in the Sport that are expensive options on the BMWs. I'm considering the Touring version myself as it works out a lot cheaper than a 320d Touring.

The lease prices seem quite expensive on our scheme on anything less than a 4 year lease though, you might need to check that.

I've also been trying to find out more on the 320i EfficientDynamics that's available from November. 170bhp, £25,675 P11D and 124g/km emissions so in the same band as the diesel ED. There doesn't seem to be any reviews or even information out there though, other than on the bmw website.
