traffic wardens, your opinion on them

They have to complete it, along with photographs and place it on the vehicle before it is considered an issued PCN in Edinburgh.

It takes at least three to four minutes for them to complete, I've sat and watched from start to finish.

Predominantly George IV Bridge.

So no, it isn't BS. I've got better things to do than lie about not getting parking tickets.

Also, if you move and stop again, other side of street, they have to start ticket fresh it is a new contravention.

You just admitted that you go out of your way and love to annoy parking attendants, so it would seem you may not have better things to do with your time.

I can appreciate where the hatred stems from when people get a ticket for being a couple of minutes past expiry. That just demonstrates a total lack of empathy and understanding. However I know plenty of people who just dislike traffic wardens which I don't understand. Staying out of their way is pretty simple, just don't park illegally.

I have not "admitted" that I go out of my way, nor love, annoying attendants.

What I did say was that I annoy them, by refusing to stay in a spot long enough for them to ticket me while I'm waiting for someone to come down into the car.

Go find something useful to do Mark as opposed to starting an argument over nothing, especially something I haven't said?

They work on figures, the more tickets they dish out the more money they earn. In Manchester they pounce the minute your ticket is expired and the majority of them are immigrants so they don't take offence to any insult you give them anyway.

I remember a time one got stabbed though.

This is not true for everywhere, my brother works as one in Brighton & Hove and he doesn't get commision for issuing tickets. It's a bit confusing as different areas do things differently, the traffic wardens for Lewes (where I worked previously) told me I could park my motorbike in a car space for free (they asked that it wasn't in the middle as to allow more cars to fit in). I asked my brother about this rule but it doesn't apply to Brighton, but he did say I could park it on pavements within certain restrictions.

I understand and have being witness to many stupid reasons for fines, clear technicalities or stupidity. Other times I'd imagine it's simply because unlike other fines where it isn't face to face, or police where you'd simply make it hard for yourself to argue; a traffic warden is an easy target and too many people in modern societies won't take responsibility for something obvious in many cases, including parking fines.

We're talking about the most obvious reasons for getting a ticket and them complaining.

But I'd agree a lot of them seem to be busy bodies who don't give them a good name, I've seen people get out of really stupid tickets by using their own rules against them! But this is Jersey, I swear there's 3 who've been doing it since I can remember.

I have never had a problem with TWs as I have never parked like a tool. I agree that some are undoubtedly martinets and that some common sense should be applied when motorists are a minute or two late, especially if they are apologetic.

I used to live in a small town with a single high street. That high street had parking for blue badge holders and unloading only, yet people would fill the bays up illegally all the time and it caused hold-ups regularly. I silently applauded the TWs that would turn up and 'earn' about 20 tickets in one sweep!

I especially love seeing TWs ticketing non-disabled motorists who park in blue badge holders' bays. As someone who has been in a wheelchair for a short period I can tell you that those bays are genuinely hugely helpful.

I wasnt starting an argument, merely calling BS on something that sounds like BS.

Keep your personal insults to yourself please.

Warden tried to give me a ticket while I was standing at the ticket machine paying for one. 10 minutes later I managed to convince this total idiot that he was being a spanner at least, but it wasn't easy. What the hell am I supposed to do, throw coins at the machine from the window of my car and hope some of them stick?

My anger's directed towards the people who make decisions to put paid for parking in place. For example, take South Shields (where I'm currently going to college), which isn't a nice town centre by any stretch of the imagination, yet throughout the week and into the weekend it's all paid for parking. There's not really much to attract people, and for a quid or two more than you'd pay for the parking, you can get a day ticket for the Metro and be in the centre of Newcastle in about 25 minutes. A much nicer place to be.

It's like the retards in the council who made this decision are out to deliberately kill their own town centre by driving people away.

this really annoys me too. noticed one in tesco last week. i was hoping they'd put an announcement over the tannoy system, instructing the owner to move it and rightly shaming the ****.

Well I can assure you it isn't BS, they need to follow a process and complete it. If they do neither, it isn't valid. I have never received anything in the post regarding moving off before an attendant has completed the ticket. Other CPZ's & CPO's may have different regulations, but City of Edinburgh Council follows national guidlines as far as I am aware.

They cannot do you through the post for an attendent failing to ticket you in time, never heard of that here.

I haven't insulted you Mark. Grow up.
