*** Official Nintendo Wii U thread ***

Couldn't be less impressed with this product. I was partially interested when it was first announced, however I'm going to have to say a big nope to this Nintendo outing.

Unless after a few years down the line they manage to pull out some incredible games then I might reconsider when its cheap.

Why people are buying this is beyond me. A brand new console with worse performance than a 7 year old XBox 360, i'm not impressed.

As you said, because its a brand new console. The same can be said for people who rush out to buy the new iDevice when there are better alternatives out there for cheaper. Its not all about the hardware but that you do with it. This was already proven with the Wii's first 3 years of sales.

No point comparing it against the PS3/360 when its already known to be more power, even if it isnt by much.

Even if it is more powerful it'll be irrelevant in what, a year or 2's time? Once the new PS4/XBox come out I honestly doubt anyone would care + I would have thought the exclusive games would take at least a year if not more to develop so they'd be coming out around the time when the new consoles are shown.

Don't buy it then!

I read this morning the UK stocks are all sold out. Obviously people are looking forward to this console. I also think most buyers are gamers rather than casual. Time will tell.

I'ts not about buying or buying it, I just don't see the point in it. Since this is a discussion forum I thought some of you would have had better responses but i'm guessing you've bought the WiiU and you're not impressed with it and now you're all getting defensive about your failed purchase.

I mean look at this:

Off reddit, that was taken on a Sunday when I would have thought most people would be playing it.

The XBOX and PS4 will no doubt be more powerful however I wouldn't bet on them being massively more powerful, not in the same way the Wii is to the 360. Think PS2 to the original XBOX and that's how I see it being.

However the reason I'm choosing the Wii U over the next gen systems is that Microsoft seem to be losing focus on games and it's no longer their main priority They want to get the XBOX into as many entertainment avenues as possible. I don't want that, I just want a dedicated games console run by a company who's number 1 priority is video games. The only company that is like that is Nintendo.

So the fact it won't be massively less powerful than the next gen systems tells me that it'll still get plenty of 3rd party support in the long term coupled with Nintendo's fantastic 1st party games tells me the Wii U will do just fine.

I dont get it, why are people expecting a massive jump in graphics with the next gen consoles as if the difference will be night and day. As I said in my earlier post, the days of "wow" factor like it was in the mid 90's going from 16bit 2D to 32bit 3D are gone. When the new consoles come out, the Wii U wont be lagging behind with graphics like it was with the Wii and 360/PS3. Especially now by the looks of AMD is developing the GPU/CPU/APU (whatever they are using) for all 3 consoles, using components we can buy for PC's today. The difference wont be that much between all of them, yeah PS4 and next Xbox will have slight clear graphics than the Wii U but nothing ground breaking we haven't seen before.

As for the amount of people playing Black Ops 2 on the Wii U, its a launch title for new game console, its to be expected. Exactly the same situation when Call of Duty 2 was an launch title for the 360. Not many were playing the 360 version for the same reason.

By the time it's £200 PS4 and Nextbox will be out and i'm pretty sure nobody except hardcore nintendo fanboys will want to buy a WiiU then.

Wouldn’t be so sure, lots of people own more than one current gen console and trend will continue come next gen line up.

Only reason Nintendo aren't doing the same as Sony and Microsoft is because they don't have access to the catalogues of content they can sell through their channels. I'm sure if Nintendo did, they would have it, as it makes money.

I've no doubt the games will come, but for the moment we have some half arsed ports, and mini game compilations. I think I'll pass until something like a decent mario game or Legend of Zelda comes along.

The Steam sales pretty much killed my enthusiasm for the WiiU. £30 got me about five games that all look better than anything it's launching with. I'll wait for a proper flagship Nintendo title or something from Platinum before parting with the cash.

On a side note - if you had two WiiU on order, would you cancel or sell them?

Cancel, it doesn't look like there is going to be the usual lack of supply at launch as they have only just sold out of pre orders.

I'm sure you're right, however I still believe they'd be more focused on the gaming aspect than Microsoft, they probably be how Sony are at the moment.

I personally can't wait to get my hands on my Wii U. I'm getting a Dreamcast vibe from it with a load of creative 1st and 2nd part games for it.

maybe its not all about horsepower? seriously, some of the best games ive played have had quite mediocre graphics compared to whats out at the time...

People who prioritize graphics over everything else in a console are "beyond me"... :p

Simple, you can't play Nintendo first/second party games on anything else.

What a rubbish and silly uninformed statement. It's not the consoles fault the devs had a tight deadline to hit and didn't perform any optimizations for the Wii U architecture.

Have a read of this. Note the GPU in the XBOX 360 is roughly 240 GFLOPS, the GPGPU in the Wii U is around 620 GFLOPS.

Yeah but the CPU is horrible, it's got 1/3rd the transistors as the 360 CPU, this won't affect first party games much since they will be coded for the ground up for the Wii U, but multi-platform games will probably continue to be bad.

Absolutely or at least for the 1st Gen games. I'm sure once developers get used to the architecture it won't be too much bother for them adjusting to the Wii U's architecture. I imagine the PS4 and XBOX will be laid out similar with a GPGPU albeit with a more powerful CPU.
