On the one hand perhaps there is a potential big social network but on the other hand the amount of time you have to commit to studying in class and alone at library or home.

Would you say University increases your time of solitude and makes you have to spend more time thinking alone?

University gives you the freedom to do either.
Many people choose to spend more time by themselves, and many more choose to be more social.

Depends what you are studying, where and how much of your social life you are prepared to give up.
I usually go out once a week and I don't even leave my room at the weekend as I am studying.
I do a lot of studying with my friends etc, but sometimes I just have to do think alone.

It's a very social thing compared to working. A full time job is exhausting compared to studying.

And before boohoo I study x hours a week: seriously. No.

Well you can just give up sleep if you don't have enough time. ( which is what I am doing now)
Which you can't do in a full time job otherwise you will get fired as your performance will be crap.

...It really depends on the week. By which I mean, how close you might be to your exams and how well you've prepared for them beforehand. Start of term is usually the most social time. Also post examination/winter break.

Then you might lock yourself up to study before some exams.

Situational, you know?

I've got to say I find studying to be more exhausting that working, I much prefer the distinction that work provided me. Go to work, do work, come home and do whatever. Now that I'm back studying i'm suffering lots because it's all wishy washy and mixed  Even though i've got a lot more free time I still find it more stressful due to that lack of definition.

You obviously chose a lax course or a very intense industry to work in... ;)

My masters was significantly harder and time consuming than the job I got from it...

The difference between work and uni is that I can see is people suddenly get more boring if they let it happen because they assume they have to. Work hard, play hard still works in a job.

Having done both, it really isn't that clear cut! Doing as many contact hours per week than a standard working week, and then doing nearly the same again in coursework and extra reading can be far, far more tiring than a standard job.

University is how you want it to be.

Theres the "OMG LAD WE R IN UNI SO WE GET SMASHED AND WASTE OUR LIVES" people.

Theres the "I enjoy the occasional drink and night out but I make time to study" people.

Theres the "STUDDDDDDDYYYYYYYYYYY" people.

Uni is a voyage of self-discovery. You can't find out who you are without solitude and you can't be a well-rounded individual without socialising. I found the best of both worlds for me was studying with mates on my course.

Uni was my favourite time of my life. So many chooices to spend your time. I spent most of my time between studying and chasing the ladies. I wish i had my time over again. I would have studied harder and be more focused on the ladies i was chasing

People spend time alone studying at university................hmmm must have missed them!

I spent the vast majority of my time either commotose are living it up with my mates only occassionally did study get in the way but never for too long. I'm quite proud of the fact I had a beer almost every day for my entire final year even during exams, dissertation etc.
