Hi there,

Has anyone got any recommendations for a cheap obd code reader that will read and clear codes? Just wondering if amongst the cheap ones on the bay if any and known to be half decent?

Any help much appreciated!

Kind Regards

Alec

The thing is, it's not worth getting a generic one if you have a car from the VAG group. A VCDS cable is worth it's weight in gold. Not only error codes, but actual english descriptions of the problems, the ability to re-code modules (and keys depending on the car), and much more.

If you really want something that reads every brand then go ahead and get a cheap bluetooth OBD2 reader, but if you own a VW (or SEAT, Skoda, Audi) then really do contemplate a VCDS cable!

EDIT: I've just sent you a message to trust.

Exactly this! I recently moved from a VW Golf GTi (well actually I have kept it as my second car) to a BMW M3. The VCDS system is insanely good compared to what is on offer for the BM.

If I had a VAG car I wouldn't hesitate for a second in buying a VCDS package again!
