Jobcentre Plus website

This is actually a good idea.

Forces those alchy scrubs you see outside job centre at 9am to actually apply for something, and have it checked.

Rather than having one of the Job advisors just nod at a bit of scribble on a piece of paper.

the problem is how do they actually check they have applied, say they have to apply for 2 jobs a week, when you expand that out across all jsa claiments thats 3 million or there about's.

now how many staff will it take to call up them 3 million jobs applied for and make sure they have actually fired a cv in, and how many company's will actually reply or have the time to check there emails for said cv.

There must be some automated system, which can confirm how many jobs you've applied for:

0/2 jobs as of X date = review or possible sanctions the following week.

2/2 jobs as of X date = entitled to payment.

But thinking about that more, it may not work, imagine the people who just send troll word documents as C.V's just to match the requirements for that week. I dunnor.

the only way it could work is if when you submit to apply it automaticly fires your cv from the jobcentre to the job applied for.

problem though is your cv will be the same for every job applied for, rather than a edited version for each job, i know my cv changes job to job applied for to make it more relevant.

Not to mention its actually 5 jobs a week now not 2 ;)

I'm pretty sure that varies on a person by person or at least area by area basis as when I was on it at the start of the year I had to apply for a lot less than some of the other people on here were needing to do.

Stupid thing is you STILL have to bring the scribble in to the job center, obviously their site cant track other job sites you have been to and applied for, not everyone is going to advertise on the Job Centers system.

Its all a MASSIVE waste of money.

It's more recent than the start of the year it changed to 5. So i was told anyway.

Yeah its bloody stupid.

To apply for jobs, you have to join up to their website!! Also, you can upload your CV and THEY will get jobs that are suitable for you. Now, that's just stupid! I WANT to pick my own job, NO one else.

Yep, it does. I was told by one person that I had to apply for 8 jobs a week. The last person I saw, however, said that there isn't any minimum. She did qualify that by adding, "but if we don't think you're applying for jobs you should be, we'll stop your money".

As for proving you've applied, when you sign in to this fabbo* new website, there's actually an Apply button which will send off a copy of your CV to the recruiter. Well, the button's there sometimes, and occasionally it works, and even more occasionally that is recorded in your job search history on the site.

I've decided not to give them access to my info (it's a tickbox on the site), because I don't see the point. I apply for jobs from a variety of sources, so I'm still going to have to bring in written proof that I've made the application, and they annoy me so much when I have to sign on anyway, I'm not doing anything to make their jobs easier.

*pile of ****

Ahh, but they say they're not there to help you find your 'dream job', just 'A' job, and they don't care if you want to do it or not or if it's even remotely in your field of expertise.

It certainly does vary from area to area. I have clients being expected to apply for 47 jobs every two weeks. Not 47 job search related actions, 47 jobs.

and what happens if theres not 47 jobs they stand a chance of getting ? do they just have to bang down 47 random jobs and lie then.

Of that I have no idea but sanctions are flowing regularly in my area from what I can see.

yet again the jobcentre being idiotic i guess, just treat people as bad as possible to get them off of benefits.

But the jobcentre doesn't care about that either. I was told "there ARE that many jobs, whether you WANT to do them or not".

Hate that place ... with a passion! I get annoyed every time I have to go there now, and usually for days afterwards.

I've made it a habit now to go sit in a coffee shop afterwards and read a book for half an hour or so before i come home. Otherwise i just end up being all worked up for the rest of the day and can't get anything done. It drains you in there.
