Just a thought; do you think it would be right for the writers of the new films to follow the storyline and included characters from the expanded universe in the books and graphic novels?
I've read a few of the books and some of them were good, others were complete junk. Personally I want them to be totally new and include nothing from the expanded universe.

Follow on from the originals but starting to expand the universe. They don't have to follow any of the books specifically but there is so much more than can be done than focusing on Luke etc

You sir are a blasphemer and need to be hung the Films have to follow or at least tie-into (and I mean seamlessly) the established canon in the books otherwise you're in danger of alienating the audience

alienating the audience? How many people do you think read the books? I'd guess that it is a very small percentage of people that will actually go and see the films when they are made :p

I've read the books from 12 years old till now and I know a fair few people who've also read the books hell on this forum there are plenty of people who've read the books and a majority of the games and other media are based on the novels so to simply ignore the established cannon would wipe out prctically half of the franchise thats currently in circulation thus alienating the fans.

I would say use it as an inspiration but don't follow it strictly. I don't care if they **** with the canon, the whole concept of canon or not is stupid anyway. It's just a story, if it's a good story then it's a good story. It shouldn't matter whether it 'counts' or not.

Based on the below, that I really wasn't aware of, my thoughts on it following on from the originals with some from the EU would make it G and some C canon thrown in.
It

Interesting quotes on canon. Had no idea about the holocron and canon classification.

EDIT - forgot the link!
