the US planned to blow up the moon!

Abssolutely the biggest load of tosh ever spouted. For the two biggest of about a gazillion reasons, 1- We don't hold the capability to blow up such as large object, it's almost impossible, and 2- We need it to lock the earth from wobbling, and without it life on earth would be virtually over. The scientist would have known this and told anyone with a braincell.

In fairness I question your intelligence for asking us whether this is even fathomable.

The article seem to suggest that they were not going to blow up the Moon, but set off an atomic bomb on its surface. So showing their superiority over the USSR.

^^ you beat me to it.

Mcanamara once said that the generals were telling him that the soviets were conducting tests on the dark side of the moon...i kinda believe the article, cold war was hilarious

Jesus, mainstream media are a bit slow...I told someone this years ago and they looked at me like I was some nutty conspiracy theorist. S'pose it ain't true unless it comes through the TV or a newspaper to some people. But I agree, the sensationalist article title is ****in stupid.

The plan was abandoned, not due to possible fallout of a failed launch, but due to the realisation that the atomic bomb would blow a hole in the surface of the hollow moon and leave the alien base inside viewable to anyone with a telescope.

''More specifically when the Apollo crew in November 20, 1969 released the lunar module, after returning to the orbiter, the module impact with the Moon caused their seismic equipment to register a continuous reverberation like a bell for more than an hour. The same effect occurred with Apollo 13's third stage which caused the Moon to ring for over three hours. So what's going on with the Moon?''
