The 8X has better hardware (nicer to hold, doesn't feel cheap) but it totally depends on which ecosystem and OS you prefer. Personally, I sent my 8X back a few days after getting it because Windows Phone just ain't for me.

You really need to try out both and decide which OS you prefer.

Reflux is right. Massively different OSes - play with them in shop, you'll probably prefer one over the other.

This is my first Windows phone but hear it's specific to the 8X. There really is no excuse for it restarting multiple times per day and I hope they fix it soon.

Aside from that it's a great phone.

Just like my former windows phones used to do (all the time)

I've been running windows phone for years; first an Omnia 7 and now a Lumia 800. My wife has a Lumia 710.

I've never had a problem with restarts and quite often find my phone has been 'alive' for weeks.

There's not a problem with Windows Phone, on the whole its stability is a plus point over android.

What about the Nokia 920?

The only problem with windows right now is the lack of apps.

I am currently missing: Natwest banking app, Spotify, DropBox, Google Drive, BBC iPlayer. Although most are supposed to be released soon enough.

Personally for me, it's an easy choice; the Galaxy SIII because it runs Android which is a more powerful OS and is also the fastest developing mobile OS out there.

We have Windows Phone devices at work so I have extensive experience with both and for me, I feel as if Windows Phone gets boring very quickly. There are lots of things that Windows Phone does well but that's not to say the competition doesn't do them just as well or better.

For example, Windows Phone has always managed to maintain a very smooth UI even on hardware that isn't exactly top end but this isn't unique to Windows Phone. Since Jelly Bean, Android is just as smooth on old hardware such as the TI 4460 which has a pretty poor GPU. iOS set the bar for UI smoothness, needless to say.

Live Tiles are always being hailed as some amazing feature for their ability to display information from a source to your home screen but this is exactly what widgets on Android has done for years. With live tiles, you're limited to tile size where as Android widgets can be made into different shapes (like 4x2, 1x4) and they actively change their layout depending on their shape.

Live tiles can be resized.

Also, you are right: Android is a more mature OS, give Windows a little more time and I think this would be a different story.

I like all three OS's, iOS, Windows and Android. It really is a personal choice, and none of the three should automatically be dismissed until all three have been played with.

Windows at least is doing things differently and innovatively. iOS and Android are fairly similar in their alerts and methodologies. Yes i know ios doesn't have widgets, I am referring to the way inputs work, search works etc. Windows rethought this and I like that.

That's why I said you're limited to tile size, i.e. that's the only customisation.

I would agree that iOS and Android do have similarities that have been driven by both sides taking ideas from others. For example, notifications were completely different from each other until Apple implemented the notification centre that was a compete rip of the Android notification shade. Google Now being similar in implementation as Siri.

SIII LTE + Android are a clear winner for me!

Build quality is not equivalent to having better hardware.

How's paying £40/month for 500MB allowance and little to no coverage outside the big cities working out for you?

Quite nicely - I'm on F&F £20.50pm 18M 3G Contract £40 for the phone.
All in all - yeah its spliffing thanks. £409 all in.

Why LTE then? :p

Good value anyhow, considering that the phone is £359 off contract, so you're only paid £50 for 18 months worth of service.
