Win8 or Win7 decisions

my god some of these reasons are stupid/crazy

Have you ever considered that others may use their computer differently to the way you use yours? I'm running 8 on two PC's and 7 on one so I am qualified to give my opinion. For the way I use a PC metro gets in the way. For the way you use one it makes it better. Does that sum it up?

At least they tried it, stupid reasons yes (no offense guys :p) but my friend won't even try it, he said everyone says it's **** so he's just a sheeple.

I've got my start menu customized really nice now with all my games on one side and apps/tools and programs. I can see nearly everything I need at the same time unlike Windows 7.

Also how is the calculator argument even a good reason? I just went to start and clicked calculator and it opens calculator AND closed the start menu simultaneously, Windows 7 you do the same you click start>calculator and it closes the start menu afterwards except you only got a tiny little start menu. On Windows 8 you get to see the calculator right there under tools and I have a lot of shortcuts on start so Windows 7 just looks cluttered to me now or I have to sacrifice items on the menu as it's not big enough.

I understand why some people like Win 8 as everyone's usage pattern is different, and 8 makes improvements in speed and security. What I don't understand is why they can't accept that the way it does things isn't going to please everyone. It's not like it's received universally positive reviews and the dislikers are swimming against the tide.
no OS can please everybody. its impossible. but they no point keep moaning over and over again about it.

if the user don't like something in win 8 just change it or custom it or don't use it.

simple as that

Microsoft hasn't blocked u to customize the look & feel with third party software.

oh and don't say u shouldn't have to use third party software because what about the people who don't like the style of the start menu, they would have to use third party software to change it which they could say they shouldn't have to use third party software .. it's never ending....

but u have many ways to not even need to touch metro , but u choose to still moan about it with stupid/crazy reasons.

This^ For example when you have a web page and a document open and you need to use the calculator. On 7 I can open calculator from the shortcut in the start menu without interrupting what I'm doing.

Right click the calculator in start and select "pin to taskbar", this feature was actually introduced in 7 and was one of the big functionality improvements over Vista.

And opening the calculator manually via Metro doesn't interrupt you any more than using Start in 7 did anyway, you just temporarily lose sight of the things you cannot interact with while navigating Start/Metro.

I remote desktop into a windows server 2012, which uses a metro style desktop, had to do a web search to figure out how to log off the session which seems madness to me.

Also because I use a reduced window (read not fullscreen, as I use a Dell 2711) trying to get the metro to appear and the bar side, is somewhat of a problem because the cursor hover area is too small, and because it's remote desktop not fullscreen the windows key doesn't work. It's certainly not without its issues. Still think metro on a server OS is pointless. I like my start buttons, I know where to find stuff :( but server manager is rather nice.

PS at home I can't have all my game icons and other programs on my desktop as I have too many, which is the reason I love the start menu, metro seems like a decent idea but poorly executed, and I never like the mac os way of doing things either. That's my 2 cents.

i do this aswell, i'm kind of indifferent to the new ui being on the server os, but i like it a lot on my home pc, and i have no issue with it on the server, i dunno why but it was obvious to me to click on my name on the start screen to get log off.

the start button not working is no different to previous versions of windows, only works if maximized, the corners may be a bit small but tbh i've really had no problem personally bringing up the start screen or charm bar when not maximised. could be quite nice to have the option to increase the size of those hotspots though.

doesnt really serve any purpose but i think its important to keep it consistent with the desktop os for purposes of consistent remote desktop etc from a user perspective.

No point either in saying how brilliant it is over and over again :p

I'm not wrong for disliking it. It's purely my opinion based on using it since release day. I'm happy that you like it. What gets irritating is that you think everyone who doesn't is an idiot.

Just to expand on my point about the start screen taking over. I never said it was a show stopper (in a manner of speaking), it was just something I found disruptive and as I said it is pretty much the only thing that I'm finding annoying. It's surprising how many people go on the defensive when people have minor issues with Windows 8.

u have many ways to not even need to touch metro. so why not just do that

That's not the point!

I'll get used to how Win8 works. I'll probably install it on my main desktop eventually, and I am a great fan of how fast it is on my netbook.

I don't like metro or how it is implemented though and I wish they had done it a different way. Every time anyone states this opinion you seem to take it as a personal insult!

no i don't.

but 98% of the opinions are issues about not having a start menu, or number of clicks, ect.. lots of people have offered/advised on how to impove or fix they issues . so they opinions can't still be valid really,

Well, my opinion is that having a start menu is much better than having a start screen comprised of childish looking tablet OS tiles. I can download one of the hacks which remove Metro from my view at all, but then what's the point of Windows 8 when the Metro parts are half of the OS?

I liked Windows 7, I wanted to try Windows 8 because of how much better it supposedly was performance wise, reliability wise and everything else, but thinking about it I was never craving even more performance and Windows 7 has been secure, solid and good looking. Windows 8 feels like they want me to use my computer like a tablet, or failing that I can go back to a traditional desktop view which doesn't have the start menu, instead I get taken back to that horrible looking tiled UI which was blatantly not designed to be navigated with a mouse.

The thing I'm annoyed about is that this is just my opinion, you may not care about what things look like, how nice they are to use, where things are kept and arranged, but I do, and I'm more than entitled to share my view on here without basically being told my opinion isn't valid.

the features / performance of bootup/shutdown / security, ect

anyway I know people have opinions that's fine that's not what im getting at...

but the people that are saying they don't like metro or about the number of click to do something ect but like the features / performance of bootup/shutdown / security, ect. they can easily fix that...

also people knew what windows 8 had because MS offered a free public preview. if u didn't like that you shouldn't of upgraded/bought it

I disagree, it works just fine with my mouse, i'm not sure how anyone can say it isn't designed for a mouse, it may also be designed for touch screens aswell but that doesn't stop it working just fine with a mouse, the two are not mutually exclusive. Personally find it much better to navigate than the old start menu, having everything laid out in category's without the need for submenu's is nice. Especially once its busy, opening/expanding submenu's all gone, find it quicker and easier to use.

I see that comment a lot, along with its only designed for tablets, and its rubbish frankly, me and a whole bunch of other people find it just fine with a mouse, living proof. Fair enough not everyone has to like it but saying its not designed for this or that is pretty much just making things up.

Are we really getting so lazy that one or two clicks extra becomes too much for us!? lol It's all just personal choice at the end of the day. I personally wouldnt touch Windows 8 with a bargepole and will treat it like Vista... just another Microsoft Massive Blunder!
It took just one thing to sum it up for me. I was watching a video review demonstrating the systems problems and rushed feeling that 8 gives. And if you type printer in on the metro system searchbar, it comes up with... NOTHING. Check spelling!! LMAO! How did that get pass testing!?
There were many other screw ups like this shown on the video and it all adds to the long winded round the houses feel that the OS gives.
Like many people have said, unless you have touch screen or it's on a phone or tablet (which lets face it is what 8 was all about) then it's nothing but frustrating pain in the arse window dressing!

But again if you like it fair play to you, and if you dont... right oooon brothers n sisters!! lol

that's just because either you, or the person making the video doesn't know how to use windows 8, if you type printer into metro, your results are catagorized, its initially focused on apps, if you select settings, you get results, 17 in total for me pc. Its better to form your own opinion because if you just take someone elses, well, it could be wrong...

see.. its really not that difficult.

some of the rubbish people are coming out with is amazing!.
