Just had a prang in my motor and after some advice.

I was driving through downend here in bristol, when I went into the back of a white renault kangoo van. It turns out he never had his foot on the brake and bam I smacked him, the issue is tho my big old lexus has such weight it made his van hit a 1993 nissan almera.

The van driver was happy to sort it out with not going through insurance, but this all relied on the 2 old biddies in the nissan playing ball aswell, now they have apparently had there car looked at, and are saying that the "Chassis is bent and the boot is unable to be opened". Which is a crock of dog doo doo, but never mind, what I need help with is, does the nissan driver contact there insurance and they go after the van driver for any damage to there vehicle, and I deal with van driver through my insurance?

If anyone could let me know it would be appreciated.

The van driver is the one who hit the old biddies, so it's between them & him, but only due to you hitting him!

Given this, were I the van driver, I'd be letting my insurance sort this out as its one persons fault, yours, tbh, I don't see why he'd sort this outside insurance given he hit the biddies through your actions.

I don't understand all this "settle out of insurance" stuff. Sure if it's just a scratch or scuff, maybe, depending on the value of the car. But when there is actual bodywork or chassis damage, it just seems utterly bizarre

You should be fully prepared when you've caused an accident to let your victims settle via insurance. It's a bit cheeky to try to coerce them to do otherwise.

^ Although that image does indeed look like a mere scuff on a crap car. So I can understand now why you'd want to settle this yourself!

I wouldnt consider the above bodywork damage or chassis damage, and I said to them they could go down the insurance route if they wanted to as it was there right to do so.

cheers for the correction you made*

Im glad you can see that there is no real damage here, yes i caused the accident I put my hands up and they have the right to go down the insurance route but If it were me for a 20 year old run about like this I would just wouldnt bother.

Lol chassis damage on the almera? Next they will be saying that hitting it caused to the turn into a piece of crap.

I was the middle vehicle of three in the same type of prang and my insurers paid for the damage to the car I was pushed into. They then re coup the money from the car that shunted me into the front one and paid for mine as it was written off.

Personally I would go through insurance as sooner or later if they are claiming that much damage a whiplash claim will follow.

Looks can be deceiving. Many bumpers pop back out after contact and the damage remains underneath.

yer im gonna call admiral now, sod it.

i've got protected ncb even tho this won't mean jack

cheers everyone.

im getting prepared with the man lube haha

This.

My mum's Ford Fusion was knocked at the back by a volvo, didn't look like much. Got to the garage, couldn't shut the boot after opening and looking at the underside, all metal is shunned in and mangled. The outside looks perfectly fine.

Had to bring in the insurance. In this case, it'll be insurance for sure. The oldies will claim the Vans, the van will be silly not to call in insurance or it'll appear to be his fault. His insurance will claim from yours. I'm sorry but you'll be at the biggest loss.

Van could probably do with a new bumper. The Almera? If that's chassis damage affecting the boot... well, I'd be very surprised.

It's a 2003 white van with a tiny dent on a plastic bumper.

The reason the owner is happy to settle out of insurance is because he will just pocket the cash and leave the van as it is ;)
