Hi guys,

I just went and bought myself an i5 3570K, which I plan to couple with the MSI Z77 MPOWER board and matching Avexir memory.

Problem I now have, is I don't know which cooler to get.

I'd like to spend less than £60, but I'm after something will a lot of thermal mass I believe is the phrase used.

I like the looks of both the Cooler Master V8, but also the Prolimatech Megahalems.

Out of those two, which would be the better choice? Or, if there is a better alternative, please feel free to suggest :)

If it makes any difference, it's all going in a Corsair 650D.

Cheers,

- Anthony.

These are the best of the dual tower solutions. Some are a bit better than others, but we're talking a few degrees.

You've got the same RAM as me, so I'm sure you want to show it off :D
This means that with most of the above, you'll have to run a single fan in the centre of the cooler or half the RAM'll be obscured by the front fan.
You'll only lose 2-4°C worth of cooling performance so it's not a big deal. You could always just stick the front fan on the back of the cooler if it bothered you.

As for single towers...

Here's a few. There are a few more you could add to the list, but we'll be here forever and I've excluded a few that aren't in stock and kept it to to a certain price range as you seem like the kinda guy that likes a premium item ;)

Now the whittling process. Fire away :D

My goodness! That's a great list, thank you for taking the time!

Out of the lot, I like both the BeQuiet! Dark Rock 2 and the Prolimatech Megahalem. Plus, at the moment I can get two AF120 fans with the 650D, so that could certainly be an option.

And yes, I'd very much like to flash off the RAM, you caught me! ;)

I like my aesthetics you see.

Out of those two I prefer, which would you recommend if you don't mind me asking?

Megahalems looks great and performs very, very well.
I'd easily take it over the Dark Rock 2 (which is a perfectly good cooler).

Those AF120's aren't really made for heatsinks, but I doubt they'll do a poor job. Just not as good as say, the SP120's with their higher rpm and static pressure design.
Stick one on the front of the cooler and the other one on the rear case exhaust I'd say.

+1 for the megahalems. idle temps are around 28-30 but stress temps with prime reach 68c with my 2500k at 4.7ghz it does that while remaining silent and i mean literally silent.

ive paired mine with 2 of these

but if i was going to buy the fans again id go for the 120mm version as they fit the cooler better

If you're just gonna go for medium to high overclocking, not super high, you don't need anything crazy, so I'd go with as quiet as possible. Out of the box, the Dark Rock Pro 2 would be the quietest, while still giving good performance and looking good. A megahalem + SP120's would be more personal but really, there is no right answer, any of these will do a decent job (the BeQuiet Dark Rock 2 at the back of the pack).

Alpenfohn k2! Sits at 21-28'C, highest I've seen it during BF3 full whack is 67'C. 4.6GHz stable, hits 70-80'C Linpack test!
