hi guys i need some advice,
just brought asus 27 2560x1440
extremely happy with screen gaming no problems and better picture.
1 minor problem,
my gtx 680 ftw 4gb seems noisier with this moniter if i go sli will both cards share the load thus reducing the noise.
money no object but would like to reduce noise.

thanks guys.

a single 680 is going to struggle at that resolution if you want maximum settings
I would sell that card now while it still has good resale value and look for a pair of cheap 670 2GB's with quieter coolers - you will lose less money reselling the 670's when the next gen comes out and 4GB is pointless if you only have 1 card and it isn't needed for 2560x1440 either at this point

though if you are running with Vsync on, yes they would share the load and allow you to manually set a fan profile that will run the fans slower than it might be doing on single card that is running flat out all the time

i am now confused as andybird is saying sli will be quiter and others say more noise,
if any guys out there are running 670' sli at 2560x1440 please comment.

thanks

He didn't say that, he said find a pair of 670's that have quiet coolers. Not all gpu coolers sound the same.

Typically SLI will make at least the top card hotter, which in turn will produce more noise as the fans spin up to counteract this. I think the lower gpu load will help, but the extra heat going into the top card will probably negate the benefit.

The issue with some of the quieter coolers is that they tend to exhaust heat into the case so you then need good airflow (=more/noisier fans) to remove it so it's a bit of a double edge sword really.

Watercooling's great but it's a lot of messing about/money, depends how much it bothers you.
