Streaming Spotify

Bluetooth adapter (logitech do one for £25) to your amp and use the app on your phone?

That's nice - not a bad idea at all, but I'd rather not use my mobile if possible.

We've just bought a new house and our sitting room is on the first floor, the study (where my PC will be) is on the ground floor. If I wanted to stream via Spotify on the PC, what options would I have then?

I saw the Logitech Squeezebox on Google, but read something about it being discontinued.

a small HTPC like a revo optical out to your DAC, or i believe a wester digital live can do spotify these days?

I use universal remote on android to control my htpc connection to my seperates.

I've spent more time browsing and Googling and think I'm just going to buy a Sonos Connect. It looks awesome and will fill my current and future needs.

Thanks to you all for the various bits of advice.

The spotify app? I didn't think you could change the playback device from that?Or do I have my wires crossed?

Sonos is great, but the spotify implementation is severely limited. I love Spotify artist radio etc. but only playlists are available on sonos.

Sonos radio can be quite good though :)

*I believe the above to be correct, but am happy to be corrected. I'm in the spotify/sonos beta testing thing... but not sure what has changed.

I use an apple airport express, this uses wifi or ethernet, and will accept incoming streams from Mac, PC, and iDevice. It has both optical and an analogue 3.5mm jack output.

Works absolutely perfectly and is exactly what you need.

Nope, I use it to play music over Bluetooth in my gf's brother's fiesta. My phone automatically selects it as the output for all audio when I connect to a Bluetooth audio device.

Maybe go to an electronics retailer and test it on your device with one of their Bluetooth speaker setups?

I use a Raspberry Pi running software called Mopidy via USB into my DAC. This is controlled from my phone though. The airport express suggestion by Jez is probably best for you if you don't want to use a phone? I'm assuming you can just send the audio output from your computer wirelessly?

Sorry to jump in but I was looking at finding out about this method* a while ago. A little bluetooth adapter would be perfect to go on my Christmas list :D What exactly are they called? Could you give me a model name/number for that one^ to go from? Searching for 'bluetooth adapter' brings back a heck of a lot of results!

Thanks!

Yeah, you can send app specific, or entire audio (hijack) output of a Mac, PC, or iDevice to it via your network. Wireless, ethernet, makes no difference. The Airport express can connect via either too. :)

Logitech wireless speaker adaptor. I've got one myself for playing music from my phone when I can't be bothered with the HTPC. I don't use Spotify though.
