Best tablet for watching 1080p movies on the go

I'm looking for a tablet to play 1080p movies on the go. I'm not really sure what to go for as I don't know what's what with tablets.

The new ipad has the highest resolution screen from what I've read but I'll have to convert the videos or transcode them on the fly. Also read about poor aspect ratios or somthing.

Not sure about the other options. Any ideas?

Having not watched a 1080p film on a tablet, I'm just wondering, can you tell the difference from watching a 720p? Or watching a 1020p on a 720p device that's only tablet size?

I've watched 1080p on my iPad3, it's not noticeably different to 720p and that's not noticeably different (apart from screen size).

1080P really isn't going to make a difference to a film on a tablet.

How much does size matter? I would imagine it's going to come down to either the Nexus 7 or the Nexus 10.

It depends on price really, nexus 10 would be your best bet. But a 720p tablet would still play those 1080p files and most will look similar, especially if you're on the go. Would not recommend iPad at all.

Nexus 10, not just for the above but the fact it's widescreen. I find watching content on my g/f's iPad frustrating.

Nexus 10 or Galaxy Note 10.1 (has a memory card slot).

Both play h.264 (mkv, mp4) without the need to convert.
