when turning my computer on in the morning it doesn’t boot straight away. I have to leave the power on from the mains going into computer for 10-20 seconds or less before it actually starts. That time was just a rough estimate though. I just want to know could it be cold whether because my computer is left in a study room with no heat overnight. Could this be the cause?

Thanks in advance.

Get this to general hardware forum mate!

My guess is that there could be a "lazy" electrolytic capacitor, probably in the PSU, but maybe on the motherboard. This ususally happens when electrolytics get old or have had a lot of use.

If the PSU a good quality one ? This kind of fault is more likely with a cheap power supply. You shouldn't have to leave your PC "on" at the mains overnight to enable it to switch on quickly.

Funnily I have a similar issue.

I have a desktop in a Van that I run from an inverter. Not ideal but, for the most part, it works OK.

Normally I leave the inverter off. When I wish to use the PC I switch the inverter on and then start the PC with the Start button.

Every now and again though it wont boot unless I switch off the PSU at the PSU switch at the back of the PC and switch it on again!

What is the difference between cycling this switch and simply turning the inverter on and off??
