Master & Commander type films

Master and Commander is a masterpiece... I don't know anything that comes close.

Hornblower is a bit meh from what I remember.

Did the Master & Commander sequel that was talked about die a death? I thought they were thinking about doing one?

Loved the film even though it was a mish-mash of the books, the books are brilliant BTW!

Only other film I can think of similar to M&C is Mutiny on the Bounty and The Bounty, the one with Marlon Brando/Trevor Howard/Richard Harris is quite dated and the one with Anthony Hopkins/Mel Gibson in has...Mel Gibson in :P

I enjoy the Anthony Hopkins Bounty and it has a great soundtrack. I'm going to put the film on now!

The only other 18th century naval film I can think of that I've seen is Damn the Defiant with Obi Wan...I mean Alec Guinness. I can't remember much about it so can't have been great.

A quick google suggests a film called Billy Budd
I was just looking up American Revolution films and saw a british film called Revolution with AL Pacino I'd never heard of. Might try and watch that

it's true there should be more movies like that. It was a huge part of history.

You know what else I'd like to see is some conquistador movies. You know at the end of "Apocalypto" you see the Spaniards coming... they should make a movie just about that.

The only one I've seen is some weird German art movie that was quite boring. And then "the fountain" which only had little snippets.

Hornblower is actually pretty bloody good, but i always end up seeing the episode where they push the mad captain/admiral down the stairs and he is accused of mutiny.

I would give an arm to see a huge production based on the battle of Trafalgar. However, the sheer number of ships (74) involved would make it too expensive and a logistical nightmare.

But what a film it could be.
