Hello there!

I've just acquired an Intel i5 3570k, and I'm going to be putting my first build together in the new year.

First off, forget budget. I know some of the components I want, so anything else I'll just have to save for which is fine.

My basket is as follows:

YOUR BASKET
1 x Corsair Force Series 3 240GB SATA 2.5" 6Gb/s Solid State Drive (CSSD-F240GB3-BK) £159.98
1 x Corsair Obsidian 650D Gaming Midi Tower - Black - with FREE Corsair Dual Pack AF120 Performance Fans £149.99
1 x MSI Z77 MPower Intel Z77 (Socket 1155) DDR3 ATX Motherboard £149.99
1 x Corsair Gamer Series GS 700W '80 Plus Bronze' Power Supply (CP-9020013-UK) £79.99
1 x Seagate Barracuda 7200.12 1TB SATA 6Gb/s 32MB Cache - OEM (ST31000524AS) £61.99
1 x Cooler Master V8 CPU Cooler (Socket 940/AM2/AM2+/AM3/LGA775/LGA1366) £54.98
1 x OcUK 22x DVD±RW SATA ReWriter (Black) - OEM £17.99
Total : £674.92 (includes shipping : FREE).

I know for certain that I want to get that specific MSI board, as well as the 650D case. I also have 8GB of Avexir Mpower memory being bought as a present, so I'm good there for now, I'll probably add more in the future.

The heatsink I really like, both for looks and from what I've read it seems to perform rather well. If I don't go for the V8, I'll probably be getting the Prolimatech Megahalems, and a couple of SP120's.

The things I'm not sure about at the moment are the PSU and storage drives. I know I'd like plenty of power, and modular isn't necessary for me either. And for storage, I'd like plenty of SSD room for OS and programs. Music, etc. will be going on the 1TB mechanical drive.

GPU-wise, I'm not too fussed at the moment. Probably going to wait for nVidia's new line of cards they're bound to release some point next year. I'm no hardcore gamer, so I'll make do with the HD 4000 in the CPU for now.

So, what are your thoughts, going off the motherboard, memory, case and processor are a given?

Thanks,

- Anthony.

All good as far as I'm concerned.

- I'd pick up the Western Digital Caviar Blue 1TB. I know, not the fastest, but it's storage, and WD make good reliable drives.

- For the cooler, fair enough. The CM Vx series are usually on the loud side. Megahalem / Black + SP 120 sounds interesting. Or a BeQuiet Dark Rock Pro 2 if you want a cool looking cooler (in the NH-D14 / SilverArrow / K2 league).

- For PSUs, Seasonics. GS700 should do OK if you want the looks and coloured fan.

The cooler also doesn't fit the 1155/6 socket.

I messaged OCUK earlier and they confirmed it does fit the 1155 socket, and they would update the listing on their site today.

Thanks for the replies, I shall look into your suggestions :)

tad more expensive, but I think better and is worth it.

Revo Drive would kick SSD ass
Gigabayte has Uk RMA
XFX are made by seasonic it is a little more expensive than your corsair but it is modular and silver certified, also 5 year warranty instead of 3 and 150W more power.
Phantecs is probably the best air cooler out on market today
WD HDD has 2 years of warranty rather than 1 and is cheaper.

components are all colour matched to be black :D as a bonus.

Is the PCI-e SSD quicker? I've read about SATA bottleneck somewhere, I assume there would be none with that card?

Quite pricey, but if it's worth it, makes total sense.

Would it be worth grabbing a 60GB SSD for now, and if in the future I deem it a worthy purchase, grab one then?

Seems mighty impressive to me.

That PSU looks far better too actually, so thanks for that :)

Well 60gb ssd will run out quickly, What you do is always up to you, I just saw your budget and tried to shave off some money of certain components to improve others, I would definetly get phantecs over that v8 though.

Ahh, I see.

Well thank you for the advice. I'm in no rush to make a decision, not building until the new year so I'll keep your suggestions in mind :)

Waste of money. Spend it elsewhere.

Like where??

I'd make these changes.

I've put two of the high-end coolers (pick one you prefer). If you aren't overclocking significantly, then a £30 cooler mentioned above will be fine.

The PSU comes highly recommended. Are you going for SLI? Might want to increase wattage depending on other specs.
