Hi as above looking to see what you think about the deal, Been offered a 5D mkll and 24 - 105 for £1299 with 1 year warranty NOT a Grey import.

What you think?

Canon refurb? I noticed on ebay they are selling them for that. A great price, I have to say I was tempted myself but I shoot a lot of football now.

Nah it will be fine, it's just more difficult and less of a hit rate. When I saw the deal thoughts went though my head of pairing it with a second hand 7D as a short term fix until I could afford a 5D3 and a replacement lens for my 17-55.

To be honest you haven't made a bad decision but if you think you have you can either pull out of the deal or sell it for more than you paid.

Yeh, I have thought of the resale value... and then getting what I wanted.. On the other hand also.. It's still a great combo.. hmm

Wait till you get it shoot with is and see how you get on! It's no the ideal fast sports setup but will do a decent enough job the AF might not be state og the art but contrary to popular belief it does actually work!

Had my heart set on a 7D and Canon EF 100-400mm....

Ask in the football shots thread, Derek uses a 5Dmkii with a 70-200 for pro football.

Will do thanks, Just you know how it goes when you buy something quickly... I'm aware of the popularity of the 5D Mk ll and it's well loved in the canon fan area.. Maybe I should stop worrying as I got it for a great price it seems.. And just see how it all turns out

Think you'll be fine, it's a great price. As long as you understand the constraints of the AF system I am sure you will be able to get some good shots. There are many good action shots out there with the mk ii.

In the future you can always get a mk iii on top or something :P

You'll hate the IQ of the 7D once you're used to a reasonably modern FF sensor. If you want quicker AF, the 70-200L lenses and the 135L (particularly the latter) are pretty nippy even on the 5D. For really long distance stuff I guess the 5D might struggle.

Well always wanted one of these > Canon EF 70-200mm f/2.8 L IS ll < Maybe time to get one.. ;)

Don't worry you'll love the purchase when you get it, I paid ~£1600 for my 5D2 + 24-105 and I'd quite happily pay that again, let alone what you paid!

As for sports I do a bit of indoor football shooting (normally with longer lenses though) and have found the AF definitely good enough on the 5D2, it's by no means effortless but its definitely doable :)
