Im trying to pay on credit card, and I can't because my MOT runs out tomorrow, as well as my tax running out tomorrow. If I get my MOT sorted tomorrow around 1pm, am I then able to renew my TAX online? Or do I still have to do it by post office.

Thanks.

Better to do it at the post office then you'll have a disc to display immediately. If you apply online you might be unlucky enough to get fined before it arrives. The offence is faliure to display tax rather than pay it.

No my question is sorry. Will my MOT certificate be uploaded instantly online once I pass so when i try to renew my tax online, it will work? As I need to pay by credit card and i can only do that online, not in post office.

Fair enough, I've learned something today then :)

As for the database question, I've no idea. It sounds like the only option is to keep trying till it works.

I believe it updates almost immediately. I've certainly MOT'd a car that previously had no ticket and taxed it on the same day.

It definitely updates instantly, i had an MOT the other week while i was at work, and i was watching its MOT status online. I knew it had passed even before the garage called me to say it was done :p

The last time I bought tax at the post office they could only accept debit card so the op is correct, I thought it was odd too

Which is strange because you can pay your income tax liabilities on a credit card. That isn't the case with a lot of indirect taxes for some reason.

I've never had the PO check the computer, maybe they do and I haven't seen it, I just show them the MOT print.

in theory it should go straight through, but i've seen it take several hours before.
Fingers crossed for it sailing through op!

I think it's something to do with anti-money laundering/circumventing cash advances, the same as (afaik) you can't buy currency exchange on credit cards without a hefty fee.

Thanks guys, went to get a new Tyre but they're all out, got my mot at 11.30 but I was told they should be lenient on my tyre and just put it through on an advisory.

Not good, £300 needed to get this through MOT. It's a KA sport 1.6 04 plate. Around £100 for the parts, £50 for mot and £150 for labour. Going to be an big hole in my wallet

It's probably worth mentioning that in future you can get your car MOT's up to 1 month early and the new certificate will be post-dated to start from the end of your existing certificate.

So if your MOT is due to expire on 30th Nov, you can arrange an MOT on the 1st Nov and your new certificate will still run until the 30th Nov next year. You don't need to wait until the very last day to 'make the most' of your MOT.

Lemme guess wishbone bushes? Anti roll bar links? possibly a broken spring? Brake pipes? That's the usual things I can think of, other than corrosion on Ka's!

#break pipes and anti roll bar, break pads and another thing.

Quick question guys,

I'm 18, will only be driving for another 18months until i head off to Uni.

Would you advise me to get the fixes done, then lease a car? Brand new citreon @ £89 a month? I guess in the long run with it being a 1 litre, and not having to fork out on repairs, it would be a good deal? Or would you say just leave that idea alone.

thanks
