hi all

ive just been toying with getting fiber but ive read that sky fiber is bad.

my mum has bt and that drops out all the time even tho she has good speeds.

and orange EE alltho im with them for broadband i dont know whether to go with them for fiber as its just been upgraded in my area.

anybody had issues with any off them???

thanks

If your after fibre, there's not allot of choice really, either virgin, bt, or now sky. I'm with virgin personally and have been for over 10 years. Can't say I've had much of a problem with them over that time... Can't really comment on the others though I'm afraid.

I've been with BT for 8 years. They are good except for their customer support call centers based in India. Can be quite annoying talking to someone with a heavy accent who doesn't really listen to you and is more interested in forcing you to run down a pre-prepared checklist of things you know are not going to fix your problem. If you are patient though and don't mind the phone bill, you will end up with a tech-spert in the UK.

Can't comment on BT Infinity as it's not in my area yet but my parents have it and they love it.

Where did you read Sky Fibre is bad? It's probably one of the best FTTC product you can get (save the expensive and usage capped providers).

Best way to think about it is as follows, dos'nt matter which company you choose, it will still be the same connection you get, due to it being BTO (Openreach) lines/boxes and all that, all the ISP will do is be the company you pay and deal with.

No connection will be 100% rock solid stable all the time, dropouts do happen, some get more then others, some get non that they notice (happen when there not using).

So Therefore id go with a company with good customer service, UK call centres and cost of service is'nt high. Only you can judge those criteria, one person might think company X is good but another may not.

When Fiber came to my area i only had 2 choices at that time, BT or Sky, i won't touch BT with a bargepole as i hate companies that use foreign call centers, so i opted for Sky as iv used them in the past, and know they have UK call centres.

So if i where you id make a list of whats important, then see which of the companies is the closest to matching it.

There's plenty of choice.

Nonsense. ISPs are not equal. The Sky offering doesn't have traffic shaping (kit in the exchange, cheaper bandwidth) and has superior routing.

ive been on skys forums and the new routers are causing big problems to gamers something to do with firmware or something.

i just wanted to know if anyone had had bad lines with certain isp

i dont want to upgrade and then not be able to play games as that would be plop for me and my son

I'm sure it'll be fine. People always complain on forums.

Who told you that Sky Fibre is 'bad'? Sky's Fibre packages are the best!

Again, are you kidding me? There didn't used to be a lot of choice previously! It was NTL/VM or nothing! Now you have VM, BT, Sky, Eclipse, ADSL24, TalkTalk, Vivaciti, etc..

Wrong wrong wrong wrong...!!

go to sky forums its full of bad connections for games

Not really. Just had a look and found a small handful about WoW which has its own issues anyway. Also none of them even appeared to be on any Fibre (FTTx) products (maybe 1 I only quickly browsed)..

P.S. I'm a Sky LLU/ADSL2+ customer and have no issues whatsoever gaming or downloading. :)

Dunno where you're seeing Sky fibre is bad? possibly one of the best Fibre offerings at the moment. Also no STM or throttling.

I'm currently no Skys ADSL package and have had no trouble other than convincing the THD that their router was pants.

I have sky fibre, rock solid. Then again I don't use their router. I just pass through everything to my own router. Yeah, I know that means 3 boxes but they are hidden, so no complaints from the better half.

yes ive had sky before just normal adsl and it was ok.

its just that ive read that world of tanks can be funny along with other games

my bro is taking the plunge and he lives down the road so if his ok ill upgrade

thanks for the answers guys
