hi all

ive just got me hands on some sennheiser pc 360s and alltho they are mega clear there doesnt seem to be a lot of bass is this normal as there open backed.

ive come from some turtle beach`s

ive also got a sound card which is a asus xonar ds 7.1

is it just me who needs to get used to them or is my sound card not powerfull enuf for them

thanks

Well they have better bass than the 350's do, but they are not particularly bassy though. People are going to have varying opinions on what is considered to be 'enough bass' though. Some may find the 360's lacking, other may find them more than adequate. You can alter the sound card settings to get a more bassy sound, which is what I'm guessing you've done.

A headphone amp may help. It won't turn them into bass monsters, but it may help enough to satisfy without having to alter the sound cards EQ settings. The 360's do benefit from a headphone amp, but there are varying opinions as to how much benefit can be had. Some feel the difference is marginal, others feel there is a definite improvement. As with all audio, it's a personal thing, so people will have different experiences.

Creative SB Z, has a headphone amp. Those that have bought one have been pleased with it. Up until now the only cards with a headphone amp, were the budget Xonar DG/X and the high end Xonar Essence/Xense, with nothing in between. The OEM version of the SB Z, so far looks like a good choice for anyone wanting something better than a budget card, but doesn't want to pay £130+.

so do you think its worth the extra cash

Having gone from a Xonar D2 to an Essence ST, I can say that there is a difference. Is it worth the extra cash? Depends on you. I can hear the difference, but I know people that would take a listen and tell me there's no difference and I'm crazy for spending that much on a soundcard.
I'd maybe try a xonar DG with it's headphone amp or a headphone amp from Fio or something before going all out on a top end card.

Also, as mentioned above, burn in as well as letting your ears get accustomed to the sound may be part of it.
