well, after people saw how much money FB made in the IPO (nevermind the aftermath) it's easy to imagine that everyone salivates at the prospect of even 1/10 of that success.

Quickly, set something up, pump it with freebies to get traction and sign up people, bloat membership numbers, float it in the public market and ker-ching, here's your cool $XX millions.

imo facebook is losing popularity so this has no hope of becoming as big without something to keep it unique like 'free music downloads to whoever uses this site'

i know facebook users are growing but i get the impression from everyone who uses it that they just make a few status updates at best, no where near like they used to and that's it, where as before they'd be on it more often, playing games etc.

it's still useful for one off big events but in general most people i'd say have realised it gets very boring ready the same crappy status updates about nothing in particular.

You mean all this applies to just the people you know, and not the millions of other people on there and the millions more signing up every day. Every new generation that signs up to FB will be persistently on there updating their status as if the world really is that interested in what they ate for lunch that day.

No "switch" required. It's a music based network (focusing on music) but you login with Facebook or Twitter or whatever.
