Company car

Just got back from local Volvo dealership to look at the V40 they only had the basic D2 model in but still looked good, some guy is going tp call me on Monday to arrange a test drive in the R Design :)

Still not sure on the D3 or D4... I'm driving a Toyota Auris T180 now so would like similar power with the D4 but is 27Bhp really worth £2600 more

As tinders said, for the same money if it comes down to rwd 120bhp 1 series with cloth interior or a 160bhp v40 with leather, I know which will be more fun.
But using that principle you could argue that a fully loaded Hyundai with 200bhp is better than the Volvo.

You pays your money :)

Volvo S60 D4 R-Design Nav - This one, all day long!
The D4 is pretty torquey and the gadgets you get for that price are superb!

Looked at the S60 today aswell I think it's just a bit to long!

Just had another look on Volvos website as s oon as you add R Design it shoots up from £23K to £28k!!!!

Point taken but in this case the volvo's are one of the best handling fwd cars you can buy, superbly put together and a great range of engines and specs for a good price.

I read that the V40 across all the diesel engines are hopeless under 1500rpm is this to keep the CO2 emmisions low? The D4 177bhp has the lowest emmisions I've seen at similar power!

Can't see it being particularly different / better to the focus on which it's based, golf etc etc - they're all much of a muchness now anyway!

Still nice though

Well in it's class, the v40 is.

All the reviews Ive seen say its handling is decent but not class leading at all.

By all means it appears to ride well, but the handling doesnt really ever get mentioned. Evo said it handled better than the new A3 but thats about it.

I like it, but im pretty sure the 1 series handles better as well as some others (maybe the new A class too)

I'm just looking at the new Golf GT Bluemotion for £23,692 which has a lot more extras as standard including SatNav than the Volvo V40

Anything wrong with the Golf's apart from being rather common now?

No, I assume thats the 2litre diesel bluemotion? I drove it in the passat a few weekend ago and it was pleasant enough, as is the mk6 golf so the new one will just be a notch up. Seems a good choice

If its the 1.6 do not touch the thing with a bargepole unless you've decided that you really dont need any sort of get up and go in your life whatsoever. People will tell you it's fine as a no nonsense get to work vehicle - I don't agree, hateful little engine.

Is the Golf a Mk 7?

I believe so as all the photos on VW site look like renders so even though prices are up no release date :(

Not as powerfull but really good CO2 emissions and a higher standard spec than the V40... cruise control, satnav etc etc

Going to ring dealer in the morning

Ok finally narrowed it down to two!!

Let the Votes begin! :p

I would choose the Audi. It probably has less kit and is slower than the Volvo but it'll be screwed together properly.

Does the Audi actually look like that, ie does it come with the LED DRLS and xenons?

I've never found any volkswagen or audi to be better put together than a Scandanavian counterpart - if anything the opposite is true
