Landrover swimming

Yep - as said...don't see anything wrong with it.

Out of curiosity, what prevents a landrover engine from being flooded unlike a conventional car engine?

Usually LR enthusiasts planning on deep wading will get a snorkel thats gets air from around the roof line and being mostly diesel dont have issues with water as a rule.

The problem is that people see videos like that on the internet then try and copy it, then come unstuck and have to be rescued, that's why the Police speak out against it.

I've been scalded by the GF already at wanting to fit a snorkel to the new Disco. :(
She says it'll make it look ugly!!

Like a 2m high 7 seater Disco 2 looks pretty to start with??????

Women!!

(it's getting one for Christmas anyway and sod the flack I get. :D)

There's slightly more to it than just a snorkel, the diffs have breathers on them which you either have to plug up or put breather tubes (same idea as the snorkel but much smaller) on them, and the clutch casing also has a breather hole (threaded so you can put a plug in it).

But yeah, with a snorkel and all the breathers plugged, just just keep the revs up which stops the water flooding up through the exhaust and off you go.

I took my mum out on flooded roads almost as deep as that video once, she was crying with fear. :D

You'd obviously feel a bit of a tool if you got stuck and needed rescuing though I guess, or drowned...

I think they're just trying to dissuade the general public from deciding they're offroader gods and having legions of people get themselves in trouble thinking 'i could do that too' before promptly failing and requiring ridiculous amounts of money to go and rescue them solely due to their own stupidity or laziness.

True, but the video isn't of a stranded Micra up to its aerial in water.

Did they give the same warning to the tractor driver?

People aren't as liable to copy someone that has clearly failed as they are someone who did something successfully.

There's not really as much need to warn people 'don't do what this obviously stranded and now completely ruined car did' :p

Good effort but this Dude takes some beating :D Wait till you get to 30 - 60 seconds.

Don't really understand why this video is newsworthy, or why the police are moaning about it. So someone drove a Defender, a vehicle designed with fording in mind, through a flooded area, successfully - so what?

It's a range rover it will break down and the police will have to rescue him ;)

I don't see why someone with a capable vehicle (though he's probably over the recommend wading depth) can't do that if they want. If you get stuck, that's unfortunate, and we should try to help.

It's not like he tried to go through it in an Audi A6 or something..
