Hello,

Had a the 3gs now for 3 years, and took it into a phone shop (not app store) to get a battery replaced, as it was shutting down after 40 minutes or so of use - and when loading apps like camera etc, it would just shut off anyway.

However, after the battery replacement, it still does it - all the same. could there be another issue (wearing out etc?) its in good condition and seems allright when working. I'm on os 6,01

TIA

PS: i reset it before taking it in shop, and restored it today.

Tony

Have you tried setting it up as a new device rather than restoring a backup? You could have a problem with the software and just restoring it will put it all back as it was before.

Set it up as a new device and try the apps which were causing the problem. If it's OK then just continue to put your apps back on but if it still crashes then I guess there's a hardware fault somewhere.

Yes, ive set it up as a new device, and the battery was about 65%. with no backed up apps oin it. i tried some stock apps (camera, and maps etc, but it cut off again. it doesn't do it while its plugged in though. in fact, it works perfecly fine with mains in. but once i take the mains out, it will shut down, and i won't be able to boot it either until i put mains in.

ATM, i'm doing a restore "6.01" (willl take 30 mins). it is a new battery, so not sure what the prob is:(

Sorry for taking this OT - Couple of weeks ago, three of us left at about the same time, all long term mods/admins, we just decided it was time for a change. If you have a look at the list of dons against all the forums on the front page you'll notice that three are no longer there.

Just one thing to add, it will stay on for a while, but if i (say) load camera up, it automatically shuts off, same too whern loading compass or a game (NFS). or anything that is heavy cpu???.

Thanks:mad::(:confused:

I wonder if they fit a 3G battery by mistake. How much did they charge?

I will ask the phone shop (thats there name actually), to see what they put in. it was £35.00 all inclusive

Edit: it DOES acually say battery replacement for "Iphone 3G" on the receipt, and not "3GS". i will look into this Monday. the "S" needs a bit more power yes?. Thanks.
