Hey guys. I'l looking to buy a gaming rig that will last the next 3 years or so and haven't go the time or energy to build from scratch. My local store has an pre-built system with the following specs, and I'd please like an opinion on wheter it looks decent value for money:

  • CASE: BitFenix Prodigy
  • PSU: 420Watt, 14cm Fan, Aktiv-PFCFeatures:Intel Smart Response

  • CPU: Intel Core i7-3770k, 3.5GHz, LGA1155, 4C/8T, 8MB Cache, max Turbo 3.9GHz, 77Watt TDPRAM
  • MOBO ASUS P8Z77-I DELUXE, ITXChipset:Intel Z77
  • RAM: 2x 8GB Corsair Vengeance, DDR3-1866, PC3-1500

  • GPU: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 670 mit 2GB GDDR5

  • HARD DRIVE 1: Solid State Drive (SSD):1x 256GB Samsung 830, SATA III, AES256, 2.5", ( max. read:520 MB/s / max. write: 400 MB/s)
  • HARD DRIVE 2: 1x 1TB, 7200rpm, 64MB, SATA III, (max. read/write 210MB/s)

  • CPU COOLER: H60 Hydro-CPU-Cooler incl. Corsair SP120 Quiet Edition; 1x 120mm

  • BLU-RAY: Lite-On Blu-Ray-RW

  • OS: Microsoft Windows 8 64bit
Only initial thing I can think is that the PSU seems a tad underpowered, but I do have a Corsair HX620 I could swap into it. Thoughts on value? :)

EDIT - Ok, silly thread really. Just priced things up separately and I can get:
CPU: Intel Core i5 3570K - no competitor price hinting

MOBO: Gigabyte GA-Z77-D3H - no competitor price hinting

RAM: GeIL EVO Corsa 2x 8GB Kit, DDR3-1600, [email protected] - no competitor price hinting

GPU: Gainward GTX-670 2GB GDDR - no competitor price hinting

SSD: Samsung SSD 840 Basic, TLC, 250GB - no competitor price hinting

COOLER: Cooler Master Hyper 412S - no competitor price hinting

Total: no competitor price hinting
That means keeping my case and using my existing PSU and accessories, and saving a lot of money while still retaining a great spec that will last a good while. Plus, importantly, i'll be able to use my Auzentech Prelude so won't sacrifice on sound quality like I would changing to Mini ITX.

I guess saving 50% IS worth the hassle of building it myself. Shoulda known better really. :)

Doing a quick search on overclockers:

CASE: £65
PSU: £70 (didn't know which one they use, but this would get you an ok one)
CPU: £260
MOBO: £160
RAM: £160
GPU: £330 (with 3 free games)
HARD DRIVE 1: £150
HARD DRIVE 2: £72
CPU COOLER: £60
BLU-RAY: £80 (assumed a good one)
OS: £80

Total: £1,487

The above ignores any deals that are on, with the current deals it would probably be nearer 1,300 so that appears to be a great offer

If you drop the CPU from a i7 down to a i5 and save £90, add that to the graphic budget and sell off all the free games you can pretty much get a pair of 7950 in crossfire :D

Cheers guys. I just edited my post to spec up a system using my existing bits.... yes, ill have to build it myself... but I will save 50% and still with an awesome spec with the added benefot I can use my Auzentech Prelude. Guess I will just lump it and build it myself, however much I can't be bummed to do it! :)

Yep definitely go for a self build you won't regret it.

Yeah i've self-built many times in my life... but that was when I had a lot of free time on my hands.

You should instead of the 670, spend a lil more and cross fire a pair of 7950's as marine said

Thanks, but I don't want to go crossfire... I'm not looking for a power-hungry system and i'm not running crazy resolutions... a fast single card is fine for 1080p. :)
