VW Scirocco

2.0 TSI is sweet but has tendency to eat oil due to higher pressure and sloppy piston ring fit (0.5L every 3000 miles usually, 0.5L every 1200 miles not uncommon, VW norm is up to 1L per 620 miles, they won't even investigate the problem unless it's 0.5L per 620 miles). Audi has a "warranty fix", by fitting different valve and breather to lower the pressure, knocks down oil consumption by about 50%, but never fixes the problem. Oddly enough, the "fix" is not acknowledged or performed by VW, Skoda, Seat.

1.4TSI with supercharger is sweet but can have a bit of annoying lag in start/stop town driving, long term reliability unproven.

Pressed to the wall, I'd chose 2.0, you will not run out of power and it's likely to see better mpg due to being less molested for progress than what essentially is polo/fabia engine.

The oil thing - not a big deal tbh. The money is insignificant and it takes 1 minute to do. At 5k miles it won't have to be done very often anyway.

Worth mentioning, but I'd still take the 2.0 without any hesitation, especially since the oil thing is more than offset by the potential maintenance cost of having both a super and a turbo charger.

No peril involved. The extended warranty is costing me a paltry £230 p.a.
***, VW extended warranty is the way forward. Breakdown cover with mine too which includes RAC, unless it's very poorly timed I'm hoping for a reasonably hassle free twincharge death if/when it happens! Listening to the supercharger is quite fun at low revs as well!

Indeed. The oil thing isnt a big deal. Ive just bought an Octavia VRS and that has used about 0.7l ish of oil in the first 3000miles. I do ~10k a year so will probably go through 2 litres of oil between services. Got 4l of Castrol edge for £26 from ECP so thats £13 a year and 3x10 minutes tops ups :p

Ah right. I'd be interested to hear about that as although my DSG box broke, apart from that (minor detail!) I've had no problems.

i did a little write somewhere on here man.

essentially seat coukdnt properly diagnose the issue despite me giving them countless evidence to what the issue was. mutliple seat dealerships diagnosed the csr complety different issues and then went on the "fix it".

in a space of 4 months my car had been in 3 times. for a total of 4 weeks. the servce iteslf was horrible kike being told i couldnt have a courtesy car as my issue was not deemed "severe" enough. genuinelly not good enough considering i bought the damn thing brand new!

Not sure if the 2.0 TSI suffers with the same high oil usage as the 2.0 TFSI. The TSI is a more modern engine (also chain driven, not belt driven so less servicing needed).

I love the technology in the 1.4 twin charged engine but wouldn't get one due to the potential for problems. A friend had an early version of it in his Golf and it was forever back at VW for unexplained power loss issues.

Has anyone got one? Whats it like?

Would you go with the 1.4 TSI (160) or 2.0 TSI (200) if you wernt doing many miles (~5k)

Is there any reason not to choose a Scirocco for a hot little Hatch (Is it a hatch or coupe? lol) for around £10-12k.

Cheers!

On paper, The combined MPG for the 2.0 TSI is 37, The same as my 206 1.6 xsi.
Is this due to a more efficient engine or should I bet getting more mpg out of mine?
I've had a 2.0TSI GT since about April 09.
Love it and can't really fault it after nearly 30k miles.

I've got the DSG gearbox too which I think is brilliant.
The only fault so far was a dodgy passenger airbag sensor that was replaced under warranty. Tyres are a bit pricey at 150-odd quid for a good brand. I get about 33mpg on long motorway (if you drive like Miss Daisy you can get it up to 40) runs and about 26-28 round town.

I tend to put a litre or so of oil in about half way to the next service but that's no more than my old puma used to do. It doesn't seem to be drinking it.

I had a 2.0 GT and got around 34 at best out of it, mostly around 32 though. Fun little car with dsg, cramped in the rear but then you didnt buy it to cart people around in did you? I thought they'd remain a bit exclusive, but then they brought out the boring models with 1.4 tsi and 2.0 tdi's and the prices then plummeted. :( . Still, rather reliable in the 20k i had it. Quick and seamless power with dsg. Nice stereo / satnav / hard disk for music..

iv got the 1.4 tsi twincharged one (60 plate) iv had it since new, and the car hasnt given me one mechanical fault at all, only thing that needs looking at is the light on the dash saying one of my bulbs are out even though it isnt lol, lovely car to drive, much better than my last car, a 57 plate astra sxi 3 door 1.4, have not had a problem with the dsg gearbox either, havnt noticed it to be laggy at all myself, its a tad mental if im honest, you really do get kicked back in your seat when accelerating hard in sports mode
:D
