Crysis 3 - Best upgrade your graphics!!

I remember when the original Crysis came out.

They claimed it so advanced you would need the highest possible specs to play it, and it would melt your system.

What they did not tell you was it was so advanced it only used 1 CPU core.

Its a good job those days are nearly at an end, Cryengine 3 like Frost Byte 2 and a few others will use 8 cores now.

Are we starting to see games that will probably make use of AMDs core layout with 8 proper cores compared to Intel and it's HT I wonder?

Sorry, what did it for you? The low res textures on launch or the 2D smoke? Lol!

Crysis 1 with mods > Crysis 2 with mods

I will see what videos are like first

I didn't buy it on release, i play it now with the DX11 texture pack on Ultra settings.

Looks awesome. Hit detection on weapons is also rather good, and fun. if your aim is pretty good you can get people in the head with a short burst from long range.

Compared to BF3's hit detection its in a different league.

I'll probably have crossfire 7970s by then but maybe my 3750k might start to bottleneck..

Plus, playing at 1440p is darn demanding but I can't settle for anything less then max settings!

I ran the Crysis3 MP Alpha, and it appeared to be relatively CPU heavy TBH. My Core i3 was at around 100% utilisation, but my overclocked HD5850 1GB was not. Hopefully,my Core i5 will do better!! :)

Are they pushing the envelope with their advanced graphics or is it just badly coded as Crysis famously was, seeing as add-on and Crysis2 wasn't as hungry.

Poor Gameplay??
I LOVE Crysis.

However, i didn't take liking into Crysis 2 up until earlier this week i started playing it again.

(When i bought it just under a year ago i only played 15 mins then thought it was rubbish). I was expecting Aliens straight away and a direct follow up from Crysis 1/1.5 (Warhead)).

But now, halfway through im loving it.

I got the qualitymod on it and out of 4 settings (1-4) 1 being the lowest, im on 2. (High i think it is) and it looks AMAZING! Past 2 my cpu/gpu cant handle it.

And im running a OC C2D E6600 @ 3.0Ghz and a GTX260 on 8Gb on ram and nothing below 28fps :) (To me its playable).

But new rig coming soon for FC3 and Crysis 3 xD

Good job I'm getting a second 670 around the release date then isn't it! Alpha ran alright on my system and I hadn't overclocked my cpu then. Just hope it's well optimised for pc really! I'm not expecting anything groundbreaking visual wise though.

I can't be fussed with doing that :p

Saved a small fortune going that route-BF3 premium@launch ~£12, Fifa 2013 ~£11 but it was only bought to get my son Spore Galactic adventures that came free with Fifa that cost £20 anywhere else, ME3 Digital Deluxe ~£11 are some off the top of my head.

The taj mahal is a great place to stay.;)

Hi there

On a serious note, looks like the upcoming Crysis 3 is going to hammer current rigs as they are recommending GTX 680 / 7970GHz for decent performance.

Be interesting to see how well it does run on a GTX 680 / HD 7970, anyone seen any early benchmark results?

judging how **** the aplha was and how rubbish the drivers were and sli performance I won't be in a rush to fall into the hype. :D
edit - On a more serious note, far cry 3 more deservedly hammers my rig.

Not that long ago you were whinging saying I tricked you into buying an i7 when it's no better! :p

Seeing that I only bought my i7 a few days ago, I don't see how that is possible?

I had an i3 2120 up until then.

I was considering the purchase of an i5 2500k until you brought the BF3 thread to my attention.

I figured (in a Sherlock Holmes kind of way) that if one modern game showed an advantage with more than 4 threads others would soon follow. ;)

It's a big mistake to upgrade your entire rig on the basis of one game because there are always games that come along which are extremely poorly coded/optimised which will make even the top end CPU/GPUs look bad.

E.g. if you put any stock in performance in Metro 2033, a game which came out 2-3 years ago now, you would think that 680/7970s are crap because they still struggle to run that game at 60 minimum on ultra.

And with Crytek's reputation for poorly coded games (looking at you Crysis 1) I doubt this signals the end of i5s or the 6--/7--- series.
