'AMD Pushes Radeon HD 8000 "Sea Islands" Launch to 2Q-2013

According to industry sources, AMD pushed launch of its next-generation Radeon HD 8000 "Sea Islands" family of GPUs to the second quarter of 2013 (April-June). The delay comes in the wake of the company going through reorganization within its ranks, in response to poor market performance in Q3-2012. The company originally planned to launch its GPUs before the end of 2012. NVIDIA plans to launch a refreshed lineup of Kepler GPUs in 2013.'

Delighted from the pov that I'm going to get longer support for my 79's!:D

Makes sense from a software POV as well.

Not the games to push even an overclocked 7950 never mind a 7950 + 20% or whatever.

Same on the nVidia side.

Depends what resolution you play at. On my 27" monitor I could definately use more power then my current 7950. In fact I'm waiting for the newer version of the Nvidia 690 which should be out next year. I'm guessing that will suit me fine (and will make Rome 2: Total War look awesome when it is released :)).

Just the right sort of time for me to upgrade to an 8950, well, April would be good..... i hope they have some good 3'rd party cooler ones ready at launch.

I can save up a little more for some CF goodness (maybe). I am worried about all this voltage locking that is going on. Started with Nvidia and now certain AIBs from AMD are following suit.

He'll be moving with the volts no doubt :o

Like gregster though, I do fear the days of voltage control are nearly over. Back to solder based volt mods

The 8000 series being pushed back suits me perfectly.

yeah hang on to that lightning for a bit, then i'll have it ;)

You can't really blame companys for Voltage locking cards. It's bound to shorten the lifespan of each unit, depending on how much people mess about with the Voltage.

:p

Move fast, practically new card AND waterblock for less then it would cost for the card alone on a special offer :o
