tirn between a 670 and 7970 - should i be?

Hi there,

I have been reading the various discussions and there *seems* to be a concensus that the 7970 is the better card so i was going to go for this: http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=GX-097-GI&groupid=701&catid=56&subcat=938

then i took a look at the anandtech comparison: http://www.anandtech.com/bench/Product/508?vs=598

and the results seem to be a mixed bag - with the 470 doing well in more recent , demanding games. That plus is has physx/cuda! - is physx etc used much - is it worth it?

they are essentally the same price - do the newer drivers for the amd's make them stand out better now?

also is that gigabyte card voltage locked? its pre overclocked but id like to get it to 1100MHz if i can - will this be possible?

The 7970 is a fine card, but I personally upgraded form a 5870 to a 670.

Yes, physx is a nice perk, there are indeed games which use it such as Borderlands 2 etc...

I think the two cards are finely balanced over all. Either is a fine choice.

The 7970 is superior to the 670 and 680 with the 12.11 drivers that just came out. You may well struggle to get that 7970 to 1100 because mine would only go to 1050 and the thing with that card is it's voltage locked so you can't do much with it once you run into that OC wall at stock volts.

I'm in a similar position. However i have limited room in my case and as the 670 is shorter than a 7950/70 i think it will be the green team for me. After looking at loads of benches, there really doesn't seem anything between them at all.

The wise man amongst us wouldn't buy either of them and instead would opt for one of these instead and save quite a few £'s:

The His is louder@idle but quieter under load and definitely has unlocked voltage overclocking on both the core and memory, idk about the WF voltages on the 7950 though.

You can use physx on ATI cards in BL2. Just enable it in the .ini.

Round about even. Probably a bit faster on the 7970.

To be honest you wouldn't notice the difference either way.

The 7950 falls into the same bracket as above when you overclock it too.

Yes, overclocked the 7950/670=680/7970, but said 680+7970's will leave almost but all 7950/670's behind when you overclock them too unless they are **** clockers, but the performance difference doesn't justify the price.

Nvidia are very overpriced all across the board with the 6's in comparison to the 7's.
