Well i think like anyone its down to odds/luck/and being jammy.

Long story short jealous of my mate (some aspects anyway) has 2x kids/ex wife & bets on football £50-600 give or take a week.

Went Xmas shopping around 11am with my mate T today. He nipped to bookies and had paid out £50 in the week and won 1k. A month back (£600) a lot to loose of course ................... Won 4k!

here I am with my mere £200 max to spend on everyone for xmas and stuggle for months on end with rent/food. £800 a month wage.

In it to win it i guess i don't follow any football & randomly bet on (euro lottery) (mainly lucky dip but only big euro) and get smeg all.

Odds of getting the minimum prize on Euromillions - 23/1. £2 per ticket, average payout £2.81. That's odds of 1.405/1 on a 23/1 shot. That's why you get nothing.

Maybe he knows a lot about sport and does accumulators?

oh yeah he's a whiz about football lives and breathe's it. I did do a bet with him back in May £100 odd or something which would have gotten £500+ but Liverpool failed so lost... So not really bet since.

but on the same event he had lost the same but did other bets and won double the amount back

It is down to chance but the lottery obviously can't pay out more than goes in so if you want to increase your wealth you can do what is much less down to luck and carve your future out by working hard and smart. :)

Been working since 15 but in a dead end job in Retail £800pcm. working hard but smart nope :(

Winning money on sports bets is more than luck, it is a lot about reading odd, form, the game and so on. It's quite a lot of work and requires some luck but when you are in a position to put a few hundred quid on a bet he's got something backing him up.

You need to pick up something on the side, Something you are naturally good at that you can get good enough to earn money from. Could be anything, Spannering Motors/Bikes, Painting & Decorating, Plastering, Anything you fancy really. Anything you earn on the side is for toys, Extra earners like buying & selling.

Well i used to build/trouble shoot PC issues but even a monkey can do that now.

Slowly building up my photography clients (Weddings from next year) mainly looking at that to get me retail part time as its sapping my sole/life

If you call researching football teams squad. stats, and making educated guesses luck, then anyone who puts in some sort of effort to increase their odds is lucky.
How about you try and see what happens.

I know very little and I did an accumulator this weekend, I got 5 out of 6 right. Not a winner but then again I think if I was more committed to it. I might have "got lucky"

Well there's your answer. It's not so much luck as taking the less risky options and winning.

Firstly don't trust everyone that tells you they've won more than they've lost unless they can back it up with accurate figures.

The nature of the human brain makes up remember the wins more prominently than the losses.

But even so, there are very few professional gamblers out there and far more charlatans, people with selective memory and urban myth believers.

A few years back, an English university did an experiment. Using their top mathematicians and statisticians they set up a huge database and fed in a ton of information of football results and in match stats into it. They then built a program that used this information to predict upcoming football matches.

I'm summarising but the upshot was that whilst they did make money, it was fractional and would require a huge bankroll to begin with to make it worth their while (it was something like 1-3% up by the end of the year or something). The conclusion was that the odds set my bookmakers are pretty darn accurate considering.

So very few people alone can outwit the bookies long term. There are opportunities, short term winning strategies and the odd arbitage bet but not really anything the average Joe could use to live off or win big consistently on.
