IS this like you take your car key and rub it along someones car.

Or is just a figure of speech as in its not a car key that is used but some other tool or house keys etc to scratch ones car..

Or is it usually a car key which is used to scratch it.

exactly.

Yeah PC, some third party scum will have used their key to scratch the paintwork along the side of your mum's car. No other item. Sorry to hear it happened.

Sarcasm?

I dunno what they used? Maybe the term is keying but they didnt necessary use a car key?

I was looking at my keys and I think my house key would do a better job, anyway no need, *******

Mate of mine had his wing mirror kicked off, deep scratches to his bonnet, wing, doors and roof, Police came round and said it was probably done as he'd parked up on a pavement off the road and some pedestrian had taken offence at his car blocking the pavement, then proceeded to issue him a Parking Ticket for it... LOLNorthWalesPolice! Best of it was, he couldn't claim on the insurance as he was at some birds house for the night when he'd told his missus he was doing an extra night-shift, talk about karma! :p

It's an honest mistake, all the guy was trying to do is find the lock, he obviously missed.
