Far Cry 3 Thread

I agree with you on that, the bow feels like it should be more powerful than it is so I stick to a silenced 50 cal sniper for long distance kills.

And still require 5 arrows to a Tiger's face to kill it? Stick with my flamethrower thanks. ;)

Only upside to the bow is the unlimited ammo and semi-awesome feeling of long range shots, it's **** for hunting, absolutely ****, and that's exactly why I would use a bow in the first place. :/

How do u get unlimited ammo. I bought the bow and had 5 arrows i used them all and it was done, waste of money better with a gun at least u can pick up enemy ammo if u run out

Just walk over the enemy you killed and you'll pick up the arrows automatically. It's not unlimited as much as reusable once it's safe to go in and recover them.

I guess so although I never went looking for them. Until you get the upgrades to store more arrows the bow isn't much use (even then it's underpowered compared to most other weapons especially the signature versions).

Um, whereabouts is that Dr Reinhardt guy you're supposed to go see after you've cleared out the very first camp (don't think that's worth spoilering to be honest). I wandered off and did a couple of sidequests and I now have no idea where this Dr guy is, he's not marked on the map.

Besides that.. some early frustrations:
- The keys to switch off radio, change song, etc don't work if they've been remapped.
- Can't bind numpad enter (nor enter for that matter - but there is a workaround for that)
- Some pretty noticeable choppiness in places, during fights it seems, and that's with 2 x GTX 690s (running everything on max in 2560x1600, except MSAA at 2x)

I also did have for a brief moment the FarCry 2 experience all over again... had a great moment where I inadvertently drove through a bandit roadblock, they gave chase and I stacked the car and fell into the sea. When I got back out I ended up having to spend the next 10 minutes dealing with car after car after car of bandits turning up. By the end there were like 7 jeeps in the same place.

He's usually located at:

Dr. Reinhardt's mansion, on the map, huge big building towards the left, atop a hill. He will either be in his house at the top, or in the greenhouse in the garden at the side of his house.

2hrs in and im not geting into it does it get better?

Problem with thse open world type games is the stop start nature and periods of nothingness.

Take FC1 for example or black mesa a recent game im playing its action always.

It does actually get better if you follow the story. Just give it some time. I'd wait until at least you get to the Badlands bit before deciding whether or not to cut your losses. I did a nice drive around the west coast yesterday in a boat and that made me feel a bit better about the whole thing. I just got the grenade takedown perk too, which has helped...

To be fair, that is only an issue when you are at the start. Once you can reload on while sprinting and you can carry more ammo you're golden.

Every now and then I have weird geometry glitches going on where people look like stars, or a texture becomes a giant pillar into the sky. I've installed the new beta 11 drivers so hopefully that'll sort my problem.

Is your card OC'd? If so, put it back at stock.

Yeah, but I gave it a touch more voltage and it still happens. Could be my VRMs getting toasty though, as I'd noticed they get pretty hot and start giving artifacts past 90C. Usually just snow though. I'll back it off a bit and see what happens. Only at 1100/1350 on a 7950 though so should be perfectly achievable.

To be honest I'd be amazed if you didn't have some graphical issues running quad sli on such a new game.

Personally running xfire 7950s, no oc and latest beta drivers at 2560x1600. Had no graphics issues whatsoever, only thing i have noticed is how hot my cards are running in this game, no other game i have ever tried has made my cards work so hard!

I'm experiencing texture shimmering, regardless of the levels of MSAA.
.

Did you sort this? I have the same problem, the edges are lovely and smooth but any lines in between flicker and shimmer like mad with movement. Very distracting when it happens all over the trees, one of those things you can't take a screenshot of, seems ok when everything is still.

If you're having any graphical issues with the game then ensure that everything in your nVidia CP or CCC is set to application preference or off especially for anti aliasing. A deferred rendering engine uses a post-process AA. Trying to force AA into the initial pre-lighting stage will screw a lot of things up. This goes for any deferred rendering engine.

There is talk on the Ubisoft Forums of a possible patch to sort out the HUD and hints...lets hope it happens.

btw, what happens with this patch? ...is it supposed to start when Uplay opens or something?
