If you got a job and had no where to stay what are the options?

I'm just trying to work out what options I have.

I'm intent on moving where I want to, so I want to start applying for jobs regardless if the start date is ASAP.

Soes I get on the train, go to my destination, tootles over to the office, does the deed, comes out, tootles back home, and awaits a response.

So if I get the job and I'm like "certainly I accept", and he/she is like "ok start in 3 days time", then I'm going to be in a sudden cold panicky sweat thinking "OMG OMG what do I do???????"

What would my options be?

Take into account train journey is 1 hour 40 minutes each way, I don't think commute on train is an option?

1h40 isn't really that long for a short term thing while you find somewhere closer to live.

It doesn't take that long to find somewhere to live, and in the meantime you can stay in a hostel (many offer private rooms nowadays), or B&B.

I think we need a 'willhub searches for work' thread. ;)

I moved from North East, to surrey for a job (then back again less than a year later, much preferred it up here).

Had a job interview, 6 hour train journey down, 20 minutes interview, 6 hour train journey back (well return was taxi, train, tube, train, metro, bus really).

In the interview, they asked about moving down here etc. etc, told them I would, but would need notice etc. I basically went down on the following friday, with 2 suitcases on the train again (full of stuff I really needed to work and live for a month clothes etc) with no where concrete, stayed in a cheap BnB for 3 days, found a house share eventually (after 2-3 goes meeting the others etc, lived on the settee for a week until room was ready - really really good of them!) then that was it. It was touch and go, and it really was found at the last moment!

Sounds simple enough, but takes a bit of faith to just shift down there with odds and sods without a place to live, and knowing you HAD to be at work on the monday.

Had a laugh! Even more so when I drank my way through every pub in guildford to find a local to spend my weekends in. The one I chose was 2 streets away.

However, thats a bit more extreme than yours!

why the second thread? You've already had answers to this in your previous thread.....

You've not even got a job yet yet you're worrying about what to do if your imaginary job asks you to start in 3 days - well suck it up and just have a long commute temporarily, find a short term rental or stay in a hostel. There are plenty of solutions to your imaginary problem and they're all relatively simple.
Accommodation is hardly an issue in a big city, your first problem is finding the job - stop worrying about silly non-issues that might not even come up.

Either live the Alan Partridge life Sunday night to Thursday night, or get the train with a weekly/monthly season ticket. Look up the alternative routes/travel times on Trainline to get the cheapest fare.

Cost Vs time away from home whilst you get your house/flat/base/fort/castle if the job is a no brainer.

Just tell them you're looking to relocate, so it will take you a little while to find a place and make the move. - If you're the right person for the job they should be happy with that, and if you're lucky a relocation allowance might appear.

When I was unemployed, I got a contract role working 400 miles away and had to start in a week. I paid a few quid on a site called spareroom.com and booked a few appointments to see a few places and booked myself into a B&B. On my second week I moved into a flat share, all done very simply.

2 lads who work nights have a 40 minute trip every day, so instead they sleep in a carpark in one of them little transits but with a bed in it. Forgot the proper name for them :p

Bedsits?

I might just have to make do with a commute then, I'm not just looking for a proper career job, I'm looking for anything from data entry so I can at least earn some monies.

Campervan as you're allowed to park them over night in lay bys etc To ***** ? :p
