Hi guys

my mum has decided to buy by dad a tablet for Christmas.

im not sure which one would be best to be honest. my dad is 70 with parkinsons and early onset of dementia (joy!)

anyway, he loves music so i would like for him to have all his music and audio books on there.

he has also started to mess around with his old Kindle so i think an ebook facility would be good too.

any suggestions? would a samsung with the stylus be any good for him? how easy are they to use?

i think retina display might be a bit OTT for him and besides, itunes is god awful on a PC. much easier to just plug something in via USB and copy music etc across.

i guess maybe actually going and trying them might be best but the only places near are manned by trained monkeys and i dont believe half of what they tell me.

thanks in advance

Why not the nexus 10, especially if he is 70.. the bigger screen might be beneficial.

Agreed. I struggle sometimes with an N7 (even though I love it) and find myself reaching for the iPad when I have a choice. The older you get, the more size matters... especially with Parkinson's on the cards. The smaller the icons, the more accurate you need to be.

typical exchange rate BS! $399 or £320!!!! grrrrrrrrrr
Ah, but when you factor in healthcare costs -- which your father may well use a lot soon -- we get the better deal. By far. It's just hard to see the big picture. :-)

oh yeah. his meds cost a fortune. good old NHS. the exchange rates always annoy me when the dollar is worth much less than the pound.

think bigger icons might help him to be honest.

couple of questons on the nexus.

what ebook formats do they support?

how easy is it to transfer images and music to and from the device? simple drag and drop via USB?

Ya drag and drop via usb for music/pics

They support almost all popular ebook formats and if you have a kindle account a kindly app will sync everything up as well :p

considering nook, kindle HD, nexus and ipads really. i need to let him try a 7" to see if they are too small. i think the ipad is about the right size.

thanks for the input guys! (keep any more advice coming too!)
