Hi all

The HPU check has just flagged up that there maybe something with the mileage on this car! I am told its done 64,000 but the HPI doesn't believe it!

The owner has full BMW service history.

Why woukd this flag up what do I do from here??

When I did an HPI check recently the mileage section had the recorded mileages with dates - this will be MOTs, v5 changes and (I believe) participating garages for servicing.

Look at the list yourself and see what it looks like to you.

It doesn't seem massively wrong

It's not hard to find someone who can change the mileage on a BMW, so it may have been lowered.

Saying that, I'm not sure how the HPI report would know if all the MOT's etc look legit.

It went back in feb 07 to an unusually round number and didn't move a mile for a year. Then did 32000 miles in 9 months

It seems odd, I doubt its been clocked but the mileage has been recorded in an odd way.

It's was up for £10500 now £9750.

Could this be a lazy MOT station putting in nice round figure rather than checking??

Doesn't seem cheap all seems very good so strange this would come up

If the mileage is accurate then its about due its first inspection 2. This is the biggest service and costs about 800 quid. If its recently had one then that's potentially a big plus point.

It has had the inspection 2 done. Next is due in 14500 miles time! The owner now has confirmed he had noticed the problem to and had it checked out by BMW and it was cleared

Those figures are really weird..

665 miles in one day (3 records of it..?)
Then 300 miles in 6 months

BMW say its all clear and the service history backs it all up. Dont know what else i can do. but obivously if i am thinking these things so will others when i try to sell it on.

Get something written down by BMW? When you come to sell you can provide the HPI printout you got for the car with the weird figures and then the letter from BMW saying the car is all fine and the HPI appears wrong.

The best thing to do is to have a look at the book itself and see how closely what's on there ties in - it looks awfully like a silly sequence of errors tbh.

Would this put you off a car like this??

If it's explainable which this seems to be, then no it would not put me off.

Providing I am happy in my own mind nothing is up, and I have reasonable proof to which I can show a potential buyer when I come to sell I wouldn't let it bother me if the car was what I was after (good price, right spec, decent condition etc....).
