FAO Fox: Buying a E39 530i Sport

I guess you didnt want them then. Now they are miiiiiiiiiine! :)
FTW.

I did email the guy but never got a response. What are your plans for them? What did you pay?

I wet vac'd my Alcantara sport seats this weekend and they have come up like brand new (we're never grubby but now look much brighter) so going to stick with them. I like the seats and the alcantara, it doesn't get red-hot in summer either. I agree leather looks and feels more premium though. Maybe I'll change my mind again. Most of the sport leather interiors that come up on ebay are badly worn which has put me off so far too.

I actually missed the aucton end cos i was out but fortunately nobody bid - not surprising given the add which wouldnt have appeared in most likely searches for contours. Offered a cheeky 100 the next day but in the end had to pay 150 which was the starting price. Cheapest i ever saw contours go for, but they need some restoration. But i need to at least dye any contours i might have got anyway so i'm not to bothered. They are heated too so i dont have to go through all that again.

It's all part of my master plan to make the best E39 interior evaaar - so nice it never existed. So it'll eventually be complete leather (just need an upper dash now), with E38 contours, heated front and rear seats, the alcantara headliner and pillars, the rear and side blinds, and some other little bits and pieces.

Oh and i'm thinking of keeping and canibalising my drivers comfort seat for the memory motors to fit in my passenger contour. Then i just need a passenger memory switch pack from german or us ebay, wire it up and code it in then i have passenger memory. That's a bit crazy though for something hardly used, bit it is more buttons so i want.

What's the consensus on the M5 lower grille? Any idea on how much they cost from BMW?
Do you prefer with or without the T-bar?

One thing, the t-bar grille has holes for the air ducting to the front brakes. Oddly, the M5 has no ducting so no holes in the actual grille (it's solid plastic but some people drill out the mesh pattern, an aftermarket grille exists with actual holes). The T-bar is removable but behind it is flat plastic, no mesh pattern so would look rubbish.

Without.

Remarkable effort gone to there! - getting two near identical cars, one LHD the other RHD, parked so uniformly, with matching background, most impressive....... ;) :p :D :D :D

Filling the washer bottle on the touring today and there's a tiny bottle that says concentrate only above, what's this for? Headlights?

It is the Intensive Wash system. See that button on the end of the right hand stalk? That operates the intensive wash. Pulling back on the stalk operates the conventional washers.

When did you do that? It does look better. Definitely something I am going to do.

I assume OEM grill? What did you do about the brake cooling ducts?

Years ago. OEM, yes.

Neither the M5 nor the 530i or 540i SE have brake cooling ducts, so..
My wheels do get incredibly brake-dusty very quickly. Wonder if it's because of the ducts blowing dust all over them?

Had three lights appear on the E39 dash today, the traction control, abs and brake warning light, no fault codes through Torque and after a couple of stop starts it went away? any clues?
